Friends looking for writers

To succeed in this competitive global environment, every student needs to have high motivation, ambition and perseverance to face the various challenges that they face. To do so, they require lot of positive attitude and inspiration from peers. Parents in this age are looking for resources, books and journals that would inspire their children to have ambition and a global outlook to excel in their chosen field of study.


The magazine Friends is a sincere effort by the Non residents of Assam towards the upliftment of the Students and youths of the North East India. It contains articles on career guidance, education, travel and tourism, volunteering and Social entrepreneurism. Chief Editor Mr. Ankur Bora from Dallas, Texas, USA sincerely desires that students and the youth of the North East India will benefit from this journal as the motto of this journal is –To inform, to inspire and to instill. It is also expected that the parents will gift this magazine to their children as a valuable resource for career development and for their future personal and professional growth.

Brisk polling is going on in Silchar Lok Sabha constituency from 7 in the morning to decide on the fate of altogether 17 candidates in the second phase of Lok Sabha polls on Saturday.Voters----both male and female are waiting in huge queues in front of the polling stations from 7 in the morning. Altogether 11,65,706 voters are expected to exercise their franchise the  Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency in the second phase of polling which is going on from Saturday morning.Polling began at 1,504 booths from 7 in the morning to end at 5 in the afternoon. Of these, the authorities have identified 97 as hyper sensitive and 694 as sensitive along with 529 hyper sensitive. The rest are comparatively safe.The contest is triangular. Congress, BJP and AIUDF are equally strong in Karimganj. Amid massive security measures, polling are going on in Diphu Lok Sabha constituency on Saturday.Altogether 6,97,567 voters are expected to exercise their franchise at 1006 booths to decide on the fate of 6 candidates.The authorities have identified 54 booths as hyper sensitive along with 233 very sensitive and 412 sensitive. As many as 17 companies of security forces have been deployed in the constituency and helicopter surveillance was conducted since Thursday to monitor the movement of militants.In the fray are six candidates. The main contest will be between Congress’s Biren Singh Engti and the BJP’s Jayram Engleng. The bandh hampered the campaigning schedule of all the candidates.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi along with vice president Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will visit Assam to campaign for the candidates who are contesting in the third phase of polls slated for April 24.AICC sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that the party high command has agreed to campaign in the state after it received request from the Rajiv Bhawan.The party is set to hold at least seven rallies for the third phase of polls where the trio would attend.Party leaders in New Delhi claimed that they would not get less than ten seats in the state.
Umakanta Boiragi made Assam proud again. The traditional tokari maestro received the Sangeet Natak Akademi award from President Pranab Mukherjee at a function in New Delhi on Friday. Mukherjee conferred the prestigious award to Bairagi along with seven other artists who were honoured with the Akademi’s Awards for their work in traditional, folk and tribal dance, music, theatre and puppetry.The aware comprises a purse of Rs 1 lakh, an angavastram and a tamrapatra.
The authorities have suspended 15 constables in Cachar district for not attending duty at the poll material distribution centre in Silchar on Friday.The constables are Hussain Ali, Pravin Bora, Najmul Haque Choudhury, Ananta Kumar Nath, Nasirul Haqque, Ibocha Singha, Mihir Kanti Das, Shiv Kanti Dey, Krishna Sinha, Dipak Kanti Das, Mridul Choudhury, Gautam Sinha, Kadir Hussain Laskar, Jahar Kanti Nath and Bijoy Sinha.
Badaruddin Ajmal seems to have landed in trouble again.According to a statement, the country’s poll panel has served notice to the AIUDF president seeking his clarification on his recent communal statement.The notice was issued to him after the commission took up a complaint filed by BJP.The commission has threatened him of strict action if he fails to clear his position by 11-30 on April 14.       
The Assam Public Service Commission has announced the schedule for the Assam Civil Service Combined competition   examination.In a press release, the panel informed that altogether 2,900 candidates would appear in the examination to be held from June 14.
Finally, it’s a respite for voters in Karbi Anglong district.KPLT has withdrawn indefinite bandh call from Friday. This will enable the voters to exercise their franchise in the Lok Sabha polls on Saturday.  The Karbi Peoples' Liberation Tigers (KPLT) militant outfit called for an indefinite bandh since April 8 in the Karbi Anglong district under Autonomous District (ST) demanding immediate creation of a separate autonomous state.
