Friends looking for writers

To succeed in this competitive global environment, every student needs to have high motivation, ambition and perseverance to face the various challenges that they face. To do so, they require lot of positive attitude and inspiration from peers. Parents in this age are looking for resources, books and journals that would inspire their children to have ambition and a global outlook to excel in their chosen field of study.


The magazine Friends is a sincere effort by the Non residents of Assam towards the upliftment of the Students and youths of the North East India. It contains articles on career guidance, education, travel and tourism, volunteering and Social entrepreneurism. Chief Editor Mr. Ankur Bora from Dallas, Texas, USA sincerely desires that students and the youth of the North East India will benefit from this journal as the motto of this journal is –To inform, to inspire and to instill. It is also expected that the parents will gift this magazine to their children as a valuable resource for career development and for their future personal and professional growth.

BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will again visit Assam to campaign for the party candidates for the Lok Sabha polls.The Gujarat Chief Minister is scheduled to visit the state on April 17 where he would hold three poll rallies in Barpeta, Mongoldoi and Nagaon.Apart from Guwahati, Modi earlier held rallies in Sivasagar, Lakhimpur, Tezpur for the first phase of polls.
Former Congress MP Mani Kumar Subba’s condition refuses to improve on Wednesday two days after he underwent a brain surgery at the Medanta City Hospital in Gurgaon.According to sources, Subba who was rushed from Guwahati following cardiac ailment is still on ventilation support.    Subba, who is contesting from Tezpur in the Lok Sabha polls suddenly fell ill on Thursday last at his residence in Lakhimpur before being flown to GNRC in Dispur.His family members rushed Subba to Gurgaon for better condition where he is not out of danger.
The stage is set for repolling in four booths on Thursday. All these booths fall under Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency where EVM refused to function properly on Monday.According to Jorhat returning officer, repolling will take place from 7 in the morning at 38 Sensuwa LP School under Jorhat Assembly segment, 5 Pukhuria LP School under Mariani assembly segment, 84 Baharbari LP School under Sonari Assembly segment and 61 Khoragarh LP School under Amguri assembly segment.Repolling was ordered after the authorities were convinced of EVM malfunctioning.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected interim bail for Kamal Medhi who has been booked in connection with the Pranab Boro self immolation case.The division bench of the apex court heard the petition moved on his behalf where the KMSS general secretary was denied bail in view of the seriousness of the case pending against him with the Dispur police station.Medhi moved the top court after the Gauhati High Court refused to grant him anticipatory bail in connection with the sensational case where a KMSS activist died in self immolation attempt in Dispur on February 24.
Congress MLA in Silchar Dinesh Prasad Goala is ailing. Goala, who is undergoing treatment at Silchar Valley Hospital of heart ailment would be airlifted to Kolkata.According to information, Goala was admitted to the hospital after he complained of breathing problem due to heart attack.Doctors attending on him suggest the family members to rush him to Kolkata for better treatment.
Three polling officials sustained injury when KPLT militants targeted three buses carrying them to Diphu on Tuesday.The incident took place at Howraghat in the evening when the three buses carrying Electronic voting machines and officials from Nagaon and Tezpur.KPLT militants who were hiding on the roadside started indiscriminate firing at the buses as soon as they arrived in the in Rongpi Tiniali.Minutes after the attack, the militants managed to vanish from the spot. Eights persons died and over ten others have taken ill after they consumed mushroom in five parts of Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Sivasagar district on Tuesday.All they were rushed to the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh three days back.The deceased were identified as Aarti Buragohain and Rupali Gogoi from Digboi, Anjali Durga and Leba Sashi from Namdang in Margherita, Dulima Majhi, Satu Kormakar and Manjuri Goria from Moran in Sivasagar district.  Apart from the over ten others, including 3 of a family, have been undergoing treatment at the AMCH.Relatives of the victims from Margherita told Assam Times that they collected mushroom from the nearby jungles.They were taken ill...
Three persons have been injured and properties worth several lakhs have been destroyed when a huge storm lashes the Rangia and Chaygaon in the outskirt of Guwahati on Tuesday.The storm lashed Chayagaon at around 4 in the evening where over 100 houses were damaged, hundreds of trees were uprooted along with telephone and electric posts disrupting surface transport communication.The worst affected area is Bamungaon where a women sustained injury as her houses collapsed under the impact of the storm.Nearly 100 houses collapsed when yet another storm hit hardly Rangia where normal life remained disrupted for several hours.Vita roads and bridges remained blocked after the storm uprooted trees,...
