Friends looking for writers

To succeed in this competitive global environment, every student needs to have high motivation, ambition and perseverance to face the various challenges that they face. To do so, they require lot of positive attitude and inspiration from peers. Parents in this age are looking for resources, books and journals that would inspire their children to have ambition and a global outlook to excel in their chosen field of study.


The magazine Friends is a sincere effort by the Non residents of Assam towards the upliftment of the Students and youths of the North East India. It contains articles on career guidance, education, travel and tourism, volunteering and Social entrepreneurism. Chief Editor Mr. Ankur Bora from Dallas, Texas, USA sincerely desires that students and the youth of the North East India will benefit from this journal as the motto of this journal is –To inform, to inspire and to instill. It is also expected that the parents will gift this magazine to their children as a valuable resource for career development and for their future personal and professional growth.

One Dr Dipmani Saikia, a senior PG student at Assam Medical College was arrested on Wednesday by Dibrugarh police. He was picked up by police on Tuesday evening. According to police Dr Saikia orchestrated the killing of Dr Sarita Toshniwal last Friday. Police meanwhile grilling Dr Saikia in this regard.
In yet another setback for the state’s health sector, the Medical Council of India has rejected a move to increase the seats in PG courses in the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.Sources told Assam Times that the GMCH authorities were in a process to increase post graduate seats by 17.But the MCI has rejected the move citing poor infrascture of the north east’s premier medical institute.MCI has already cancelled the recognition of Jorhat Medical Colllege Hospital and Barpeta Medical College Hospital citing the same ground.Same it is likely to happen in the Tezpur Medical College Hospital where the team is set to visit in a day or two.    
A lower court in Jorhat district has issued an arrest against a Congress MLA in connection with a case where he assaulted a policeman last year.The Titabor Subdivisional Judicial magistrate AK Baruah has issued the arrest warrant against Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi on Monday.In an order issued after hearing a case of assault on a policemen August last year, the court has asked the police to produce the MLA before the court on May 23.Kurmi’s lawyer, however, is preparing to move the Jorhat CJM Court challenging the order.The court order was issued after police chargesheeted the Congress MLA and his PSO for assaulting a policeman on the street. /
The Assam Government has suspended AMCH principal Dr AK Adhikary with immediate effect. In an order, the government has asked Dr Narayan Upadhyay to take over as the principal of the state’s first medical college. The decision was taken when health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma called on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at his residence in Koinadhara on Monday night.Apart from CID probe into the sensational AMCH incident, the government has instituted a one man panel of PP Verma to probe the allegations of lapses. Verma is asked to submit his findings by the next 15 days.
No major setback awaits Congress in the Lok Sabha polls if the exit polls are any indication.CSDS-sponsored exit poll has projected 40% vote share for the ruling party 1% up from 2009 Lok sabha polls.The exit poll broadcast by CNN-IBN further projected rise the BJP’s vote share from 2009 and that AGP’s vote share would significantly go down from the 2009.On the other hand, Times Now Org exit polls has projected 5 seats for the ruling party---2 seats down from the existing 7.It has predicted significant rise in BJP tally from 4 to 7 this time.According to Times Now, AGP is unlikely to open its account while AIUDF and others will get one seat each.
Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government will institute a committee of PP Verma to probe the AMCH incident. Talking to reporters at Khanapara on Monday after his brief meeting with chief minister Tarun Gogoi, the health minister said that process was on to suspend AMCH principal Dr AK Adhikary.“ We have already announced Principal I/C for AMC,.” said Dr Sarma a day after he visited the Assam Medical College Hospital where a wardbody killed a doctor on her duty at an ICU unit.
Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday lashed out at Anjan Dutta for waging war against a section minister.Talking to reporters in Guwahati, Dr Sarma said, “we have 78 MLAs with Tarun Gogoi as our chief minister. I don’t understand why Dutta has sidelined only 37. Is he leading a dissident camp?”
Senior Congress leader and MLA Anjan Dutta on Monday dared dissident ministers and parliamentary secretaries to quit immediately.Addressing a press conference in Sivasagar, Dutta said that those who are harmful for the ruling party should not try to dislodge Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi taking advantage of a position of minister or parliamentary secretaryHe said that he would lead a 42 member delegation of MLAs to New Delhi to expose the dissident activities in the time of polls.

Amid deescalating tension in Kokrajhar and Baksa district, BJP leader P Chandrasekhar on Sunday charged the Congress government in Assam with fomenting trouble in the BTAD areas.Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, the BJP veteran said that Congress have been funding the insurgents operating in the region.Blaming it all on the government’s failure to deal with the violence, Chandrasekhar further dared chief minister Tarun Gogoi to take action against those accused by the victims’ family members.
