The Karbi Anglong police claimed to have killed KPLT boss at an encounter on Wednesday. Seven hardcore Karbi insurgents were also believed to have been killed at the 4 hour long gunfight near Manja. The encounter took place from 1 in the afternoon at a dense forest which ended at 5 in the evening. Identified as Thampur Teron, the KPLT commander in chief was killed in the initial stage of the gunfight.
A lower court in Dibrugarh on Wednesday sent Dr Dipmoni Saikia to 7 days police custody a day after he was arrestead in Sarita Toshniwal murder case at AMCH last week. The court further sent wardboy Kero Mech to jail to kill the PG student inside the ICU on May 1. Police booked Dr Saikia on Tuesday and grilled several hours in this connection acting on the statements of Kero Mech. Then police arrested Dr Saikia in the morning before he was produced in court where he was sent to police remand for 7 days.
One Dr Dipmani Saikia, a senior PG student at Assam Medical College was arrested on Wednesday by Dibrugarh police. He was picked up by police on Tuesday evening. In yet another setback for the state’s health sector, the Medical Council of India has rejected a move to increase the seats in PG courses in the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.Sources told Assam Times that the GMCH authorities were in a process to increase post graduate seats by 17.But the MCI has rejected the move citing poor infrascture of the north east’s premier medical institute.MCI has already cancelled the recognition of Jorhat Medical Colllege Hospital and Barpeta Medical College Hospital citing the same ground.Same it is likely to happen in the Tezpur Medical College Hospital where the team is set to visit in a day or two.
