Second convocation of NERIST on August 4

The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology attained 25 years of its existence witnessing different stages of development. The unconventional modular pattern of technical education of NERIST has proved itself worthy and highly successful in that pattern. The Institute has attained the Deemed University Status in the year 2005. The Institute has celebrated its Silver Jubilee Year in the year 2009 on March 4. The First Convocation of NERIST was addressed by Her Excellency the President of India Smti Prativa Devisingh Patil, on April 1, 2009.


NERIST is all set for its second convocation scheduled for August 4. Former President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam has kindly consented to deliver the Convocation address and award Gold Medals and Degrees to the successful students in the fields of sciences, technology and management. His Excellency the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Gen. J. J. Singh, who is also the President of the NERIST Society, Prof. Gautam Baruah, Director of IIT-Guwahati and who is also the Chairman of NERIST Board of Management, and a host of other dignitaries are slated to grace the occasion.


NERIST shall award I5 M. Tech, 10 M. Sc. (FO), 12 MBA, 171 B. Tech. and 11 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, including 10 Gold medals for the year 2009, and for the year 2010, 11 M. Tech., 11 M. Sc. (FO), 34 MBA, 125 B. Tech. and 15 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, along with 10 Gold medals, in the Convocation on 4th August, 2010. This year NERIST will also be awarding its first Ph. D. degree to a Computer Sc. and Engineering scholar.


Besides the above, Diploma Module and Certificate Module pass out students of both 2009 and 2010 batch are going to get their diplomas and certificates.


As known to everybody, the young generations of students of schools, colleges and universities of our country are highly encouraged by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam to build the future India which can challenge the world in all fields of sciences, technologies and management sciences, NERIST is organizing an Interaction Session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school children from different schools of the capital complex of Itanagar, on 3rd August, 2010 at Darbar Hall in the Rajbhawan of Arunachal Pradesh.


The Convocation function and Convocation Address by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam on 4th August, from 09.45 hours onwards, as well as the Interaction session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school students on 3rd August, 2010, from 17.00 hours onwards will be live telecast by NERIST through the satellite channel of NE TV.

I really feel proud to be from the first batch of NERIST....I definitely regret to having missed our convocation....but definitely cherish such news where in President of India has been giving away the degrees to the passing out Neristians. I have been lucky to have worked with our former President very closely

Thats a wonderful achievement! I feel proud to have been a part of this legacy. As the first batch of the institute we were pioneers and braved the initial hiccups to see this day!! Would have loved to take part in the convocation if I had some prior information! Congratulations anyways!

It fills me with great pride to have been a part of the legacy that has culminated to this day. I am not only proud to be a NERISTian but wear it on my sleve everywhere I go. My heartiest congratulations to the young men and women who are passing out this year and wishing them all the success in their future endevours. Keep the flag flying high everyone.

2 school boys meet watery grave; 5 picked up

Two boys were feared to have dead when they fell from a boat on the river Brahmaputra on Sunday. Kalam sees a lot in Assam for growth

Talk process impossible from inside the jail: ULFA

The United Liberation Front of Asom will never talk to the government if they are forced to be lodged in jail. Disclosing this chairman of the banned insurgent outfit Arabinda Rajkhowa said they will not write it to the Centre from inside the jail. Rajkhowa was rushed to the Regional Dental College in Guwahati on Tuesday. This development comes a day after Union Home minister P Chidambaram said the Centre was waiting for a written communique from the outfit for holding talk. Chidambaram, further said the government can't wait for an indefinite period of time only because of Commander in Chief Paresh Baruah. He said talk is possible sans Paresh Baruah.

Feline terror inside Assam zoo in Guwahati

There is feline terror inside the Assam State Zoo in Guwahati when three panthers managed to came out of the iron cages in the morning. Of them has already been tranquilized while efforts are on to trace the second one which is believed to have sneaked into the botanical garden. According to the zoo authorities, a tigress and and her cub came out of the iron cage and were remaining untracked for the last several hours. On seeing of them being caught at a drain, one of them was tranquilized. This has forced the zoo authorities to evacuate the visitors in the morning. The visitors are still remaining outside the zoo premises. Details are awaited.

Centre convenes meet to disucss talk with ULFA

The Centre convens a high- level meeting next month to chalk out its strategy on possible talks with ULFA. To be chaired by Home Minister P Chidambaram the meeting will be participated by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi along with the top officials. The meeting is expected to work out modalities for future talks with ULFA. According tio Union Home Ministry, the date of the crucial meet will be fixed in a day or two. The move assumes significance in view of the fact that the entire top leadership of ULFA, barring its military wing Chief Paresh Baruah, are currently in jails. SULFA man puts Assam Cong in trouble

A sensational revelation by a jailed surrendered ULFA man seems to have rattled the ruling Congress in Assam a year ahead of the assembly polls in the state. He is Kamal Nath who on Wednesday made this stunning revelation that altogether eleven ULFA men captured in Bhutan were killed in Shillong after they were handed over to the country. Assam defys militant diktat; celebrates R-Day

Defying a 17 hour long militant diktat, Republic Day was celebrated across the state in Assam on Tuedsay. Assam Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik led the state in the celebration who appealed to the rebel outfits to shun the path of violence and come to the table for settlement of all their problems. Expert blasts ULFA

Noted economist Dr Jitendralal Borkakoty on Wednesday called ULFA a bunch of 'self-appointed' freedom fighters which have no support from the people. Talking to reporters in Guwahati, Borkakoty a specialist in international trade sais an analysis of the ULFA's reasons in favour of their demand for a sovereign state of Assam reveals that the insurgents are self-appointed freedom fighters on behalf of the Assamese people who do not want an independent Assam.
