Second convocation of NERIST on August 4

The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology attained 25 years of its existence witnessing different stages of development. The unconventional modular pattern of technical education of NERIST has proved itself worthy and highly successful in that pattern. The Institute has attained the Deemed University Status in the year 2005. The Institute has celebrated its Silver Jubilee Year in the year 2009 on March 4. The First Convocation of NERIST was addressed by Her Excellency the President of India Smti Prativa Devisingh Patil, on April 1, 2009.


NERIST is all set for its second convocation scheduled for August 4. Former President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam has kindly consented to deliver the Convocation address and award Gold Medals and Degrees to the successful students in the fields of sciences, technology and management. His Excellency the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Gen. J. J. Singh, who is also the President of the NERIST Society, Prof. Gautam Baruah, Director of IIT-Guwahati and who is also the Chairman of NERIST Board of Management, and a host of other dignitaries are slated to grace the occasion.


NERIST shall award I5 M. Tech, 10 M. Sc. (FO), 12 MBA, 171 B. Tech. and 11 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, including 10 Gold medals for the year 2009, and for the year 2010, 11 M. Tech., 11 M. Sc. (FO), 34 MBA, 125 B. Tech. and 15 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, along with 10 Gold medals, in the Convocation on 4th August, 2010. This year NERIST will also be awarding its first Ph. D. degree to a Computer Sc. and Engineering scholar.


Besides the above, Diploma Module and Certificate Module pass out students of both 2009 and 2010 batch are going to get their diplomas and certificates.


As known to everybody, the young generations of students of schools, colleges and universities of our country are highly encouraged by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam to build the future India which can challenge the world in all fields of sciences, technologies and management sciences, NERIST is organizing an Interaction Session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school children from different schools of the capital complex of Itanagar, on 3rd August, 2010 at Darbar Hall in the Rajbhawan of Arunachal Pradesh.


The Convocation function and Convocation Address by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam on 4th August, from 09.45 hours onwards, as well as the Interaction session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school students on 3rd August, 2010, from 17.00 hours onwards will be live telecast by NERIST through the satellite channel of NE TV.

I really feel proud to be from the first batch of NERIST....I definitely regret to having missed our convocation....but definitely cherish such news where in President of India has been giving away the degrees to the passing out Neristians. I have been lucky to have worked with our former President very closely

Thats a wonderful achievement! I feel proud to have been a part of this legacy. As the first batch of the institute we were pioneers and braved the initial hiccups to see this day!! Would have loved to take part in the convocation if I had some prior information! Congratulations anyways!

It fills me with great pride to have been a part of the legacy that has culminated to this day. I am not only proud to be a NERISTian but wear it on my sleve everywhere I go. My heartiest congratulations to the young men and women who are passing out this year and wishing them all the success in their future endevours. Keep the flag flying high everyone.

Gogoi, PC talk peace

In yet another significant development Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had a close door meet with union home minister P Chidambaram in Delhi on Thursday. Both are believed to have discussed the modalities for talks with ULFA. Later talking to media, Gogoi said that they want all top ULFA leaders to be involved in the process. Assam DGP Sankar Barua also was present in the meeting. The meeting assumes significance after a local TADA court granted bail to Pradeep Gogoi and Mithinga Daimary.

Gogoi to seek CBI probe into NC Hill scam

It's final. The Assam government will recommend CBI probe into the multi-crore scam that rocked NC Hill District 3 years back. This was confirmed by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi after his meeting with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in Delhi. On the other hand, opposition AGP leaders and workers stage demo at the Jantar Mantar demanding action against the ministers involved in the multi-crore scam.

Mithinga freed from jail

ULFA publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary was freed on Thursday 48 hours after he procured bail from a local TADA court. The jailed ULFA top gun who has been languishing in Guwahati after he was captured in Bhutan during Operatrion All Clear, was freed on Thursday in presence of his family members who later took away him to his birth place Barama in Nalbari district of Assam. Farmers demands in Dispur rent the sky

Farmers from across Assam thronged in thousands in Dispur on Thursday to stage demonstration demanding steps to check rampant corruptions that cripples the much-hyped NREGA. Led by Krishak Adhikar Surakhya Sangram Committee general secretary Akhil Gogoi, the farmers arrived in the city in the morning and assembled at the Last Gate for the mammoth protest. Pathetic road connetion to Namrup

The roads leading to Namrup from Sonari to Namrup as well as Nahakatia to Namrup are in very bad condition. It is hard to imagine such pathetic roads in this twentieth century. Specially in an industrial area like Namrup which houses three very important industries i.e. Bhrahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Limited, Namrup Thermal Power Plant and Assam Petrochemical limited. Pradip - Mithinga release delayed

Two ULFA top leaders have yet to be released even a day after procured bail in TADA cases. Jail authorities have cited security reasons for the delay. The outfit's publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary is expected to be released on Thursday. ULFA vice president Pradip Gogoi has also yet to be released citing a delayed official procedure. According to source, Gogoi will have to ensure 12 personal bonds before the court before his release from Guwahati central jail where he has been languishing since 1998. Mithinga was logged in jail since 2004 after he was captured in Bhutan in operation all clear.

In yet another significant development that can expedite the soon-to-be-kickstarted peace process with the government, a TADA court in Guwahati granted bail to ULFA vice chairman Pradeep and central publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary. The jailed ULFA top gun duo are expected to be released from the Guwahati Central jail on Tuesday itself. Gogoi, who has been languishing in the jail since 1998, had six cases under TADA while he was granted bail in three cases on February 19.
