Boomba Ride' to be screened at Cannes Film Festival 'Olympia Screen' on 22nd May.

Golaghat: Acclaimed Assamese movie 'Boomba Ride' that was screened in the Indian Panorama will be screened at Cannes Film Festival 'Olympia Screen' on 22nd May 2022.
Producer of the movie Luit Kumar Barman informed this correspondent that an email yesterday evening from the Deputy Director and Directorate of the Indian Film Festival confirmed to Biswajit Bora, director of the movie   that the movie 'Boomba Ride' has been officially selected for screening at the Marchu Du Film and Cannes Film Festival. Producer and Director have expressed satisfaction over selection of their for an screening at Cannes.

'Boomba Ride’ is being  written, edited and directed in 2021 by Biswajeet Bora, a native of Upper Assam's Golaghat. It is like his previous opus ‘God on the Balcony," shot entirely in the state of Assam, on the banks of the Brahmaputra River where he spent his childhood and youth. Movie critics who watched movie says, it is a masterpiece from Assam with an IMDB rating of 9.6/10. It is releasing on 16th September in theatres.

Barman on being asked about the pivotal character Indrajit Pegu (Boomba), he said, "Boomba Ride , the character of Boomba was well crafted by 9 years old boy from a remote village by Indrajit Pegu. He has given us names, fame, money and everything. In return, we are not able to give him anything. Today I announce, I will bear his educational cost till class X wherever he wants to study in Assam. In the reel, he wanted to study in English medium but had to study in government school, if in real he wants to study in English medium I will sponsor him till class X.' Barman strongly feels that he will be great actor in coming years provided he is groomed well.

Luit Kumar Barman further said: 'The movie is a winning satire, filled with comic moments stemming mainly from the efforts of the teachers to keep their scam going at any cost. But the film’s theme points to a serious problem.' “Education is taken far too lightly.”, Barman says as the plot of the movie revolves around it.

'We have all seen government-run schools in Assam that don’t have the facilities that schools should have.', he further added.

The director Biswajit Bora has found an entirely non-professional cast by spending time with the locals. The Mishing dialect in which they communicate is also the linking  language of the film. The movie is shot mostly in Golaghat in Mishing populated areas. Since Rima Das's 'Village Rockstars' Oscars run,  Assamese non commercial creative movie making has got a new dimension. 'Baghjan' and 'Boomba Ride' are classic examples of exceptional creative work on a low budget.
