Demand for Bodoland statehood grows

KOKRAJHAR: Reiterating the demand for an amicable solution of the Bodoland statehood issue, a mass gathering was organised at Balipara, Sonitpur district on Monday.

Tens of thousands of people from different organizations of the Bodo community with banner, placards participated the mass gathering and shouted slogans demanding early solutions of the long standing demand  for a Bodoland state through political dialogue to pave the way for healthy administration demanded early solutions of the Bodoland statehood under Article 2 & 3 of the Indian constitution.

The mass gathering was organised by All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), People's Joint Action Committee for Boroland Movement (PJACBM) and Progressive faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB-P).

The protesters also demanded political rights to Bodo's living outside of Bodoland to grant ST(Hills) status, implementation of the Forest Right & Other Traditional Forest Dwellers Act, 2006 and inclusion of non-Panchayat villages under Panchayati Raj in the state.

The movement groups slammed the BJP-led NDA government for not taking initiative to solve the Bodoland issue even after manifesto in 2014 Parliamentary elections.

The Bodoland statehood movement groups have warned to take massive democratic movement in coming days if separate Bodoland statehood was not createdas soon as possible.

Participating the mass gathering, ABSU president Pramod Boro has opined that strong mass movement is the only way to put pressure on the government for early creation of Bodoland statehood. He said that mass democratic movement will continue until separate Bodoland statehood was created.

He has urged the NDA government to take urgent step for creation of Bodoland state under Article 2& 3 of Indian constitution to pave away good governance and integration in the region.

KOKRAJHAR: Police apprehended three persons including a government employee involved with cheating related cases from Kokrajhar town on Thursday. KOKRAJHAR: The 27th Kokrajhar district level National Children’s Science Congress 2019 was held with day-long programme at Dotma Girls’ High School in Kokrajhar on Saturday. United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) president UG Brahma hinted seat sharing possibility with BPF in the upcoming BTC general council elections to be held in 2020. He reacted to the statement of BPF president Hagrama Mohilary. Mohilary said to medi thta BPF is not going for seat sharing but unification with parties. Speaking the media at Kokrajhar Press Club on Friday, Brahma said that there was only preliminary communication among both the parties regarding unification possibility ahead of elections. KOKRAJHAR: Chief of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Hagrama Mohilary said the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) will continue its alliance with BJP and AGP in the upcoming BTC election due next year.
