Demand for Bodoland statehood grows

KOKRAJHAR: Reiterating the demand for an amicable solution of the Bodoland statehood issue, a mass gathering was organised at Balipara, Sonitpur district on Monday.

Tens of thousands of people from different organizations of the Bodo community with banner, placards participated the mass gathering and shouted slogans demanding early solutions of the long standing demand  for a Bodoland state through political dialogue to pave the way for healthy administration demanded early solutions of the Bodoland statehood under Article 2 & 3 of the Indian constitution.

The mass gathering was organised by All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), People's Joint Action Committee for Boroland Movement (PJACBM) and Progressive faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB-P).

The protesters also demanded political rights to Bodo's living outside of Bodoland to grant ST(Hills) status, implementation of the Forest Right & Other Traditional Forest Dwellers Act, 2006 and inclusion of non-Panchayat villages under Panchayati Raj in the state.

The movement groups slammed the BJP-led NDA government for not taking initiative to solve the Bodoland issue even after manifesto in 2014 Parliamentary elections.

The Bodoland statehood movement groups have warned to take massive democratic movement in coming days if separate Bodoland statehood was not createdas soon as possible.

Participating the mass gathering, ABSU president Pramod Boro has opined that strong mass movement is the only way to put pressure on the government for early creation of Bodoland statehood. He said that mass democratic movement will continue until separate Bodoland statehood was created.

He has urged the NDA government to take urgent step for creation of Bodoland state under Article 2& 3 of Indian constitution to pave away good governance and integration in the region.

Five persons were arrested by te police for illegally carrying cattles in five trucks on Thursday morning at Karigaon national highways in Kokrajhar district. Police intercepted the trucks carrying 80 cattles, including 14 buffaloes during the petrolling in the 31C National Highways. KOKRAJHAR: Security forces have recovered large number cache of arms, ammunitions and explosives inside Manas National Park (MNP) under Gavarukundha range near Panbari under Bijni police station in Chirang district on Tuesday morning. KOKRAJHAR: A new political outfit was floated in Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD) at a convention held at Pathshala in Baksa district on Sunday. The newly floated political party has been named as Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) headed by Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Naba Kumar Sarania. The party has appointed ten executive members. In the meeting, BTAD army was also formed to work to the extensive services amongst all sections of the society. Sarania said that the newly floated political party will work for all round development of the region. He said that the party is planning to put candidature in all 35 seats in the upcoming BTC elections next year.
Kokrajhar: The 22nd edition of the Daoharu Mungkhlong Football Trophy 2019 began here at Dotma HS School playground in Kokrajhar district on Sunday. 10 teams from the state and West Bengal are participating in the competition. KOKRAJHAR,SEP 21: "United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) is fully prepared to contest the upcoming BTC general council election to be held next year. There is no word of unification with ruling BPF", said UPPL president Urkhao Gwra Brahma. KOKRAJHAR: In a heart touching incident, Kokrajhar SP Rajen Singh physical assaulted  EAC Sailen Das at a gettogeter inside a hotel in Kokrajhar as video of CCTV footages state. The incident has come into light after a video became viral on social media on Friday. According to sources, there was a get together organised by district administration at Hotel Gaurang Valley on September 9 where the incident took place.  Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal ordered an official inquiry into the incident. KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) expelled of Rinjoy Boro from central committee for his anti organizational activities. In a press statement, assistant general secretary of the students union, Khwrwmdao Wary said the student's union after the cabinet meeting held on Friday has decided to take disciplinary action against Rinjoy Boro, who was one of the central committee ABSU, Secretary.
