Demand for Bodoland statehood grows

KOKRAJHAR: Reiterating the demand for an amicable solution of the Bodoland statehood issue, a mass gathering was organised at Balipara, Sonitpur district on Monday.

Tens of thousands of people from different organizations of the Bodo community with banner, placards participated the mass gathering and shouted slogans demanding early solutions of the long standing demand  for a Bodoland state through political dialogue to pave the way for healthy administration demanded early solutions of the Bodoland statehood under Article 2 & 3 of the Indian constitution.

The mass gathering was organised by All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), People's Joint Action Committee for Boroland Movement (PJACBM) and Progressive faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB-P).

The protesters also demanded political rights to Bodo's living outside of Bodoland to grant ST(Hills) status, implementation of the Forest Right & Other Traditional Forest Dwellers Act, 2006 and inclusion of non-Panchayat villages under Panchayati Raj in the state.

The movement groups slammed the BJP-led NDA government for not taking initiative to solve the Bodoland issue even after manifesto in 2014 Parliamentary elections.

The Bodoland statehood movement groups have warned to take massive democratic movement in coming days if separate Bodoland statehood was not createdas soon as possible.

Participating the mass gathering, ABSU president Pramod Boro has opined that strong mass movement is the only way to put pressure on the government for early creation of Bodoland statehood. He said that mass democratic movement will continue until separate Bodoland statehood was created.

He has urged the NDA government to take urgent step for creation of Bodoland state under Article 2& 3 of Indian constitution to pave away good governance and integration in the region.

Police launched a crackdown on illegal cattle smugglers and arrested ten persons on Thursday evening at Srirampur area in Kokrajhar district. Police apprehended a truck bearing registration number AS-01GC-3837 carrying 16 cattle illegally from West Bengal bound for Bangladesh via Meghalaya. Police  also arrested Arun Lyngdoh and Munna Saikia alias Ikram Hussain, president and secretary of the All India Livestocks Trader and Transporters Association, as they were escorting the illegal cattle truck. Members from Indian Medical Association (IMA) of Kokrajhar branch has carried out a candle light rally in Kokrajhar town on Tuesday evening in protest against the brutal killing of Dr Deben Dutta, a doctor in Teok tea estate hospital. The rally was started from Kokrajhar RNB civil hospital complex traversed to RNB Road, JD Road,fly over and concluded at the same point. Rajya Sabha MP Biswajeet Daimary welcomes the publication of the NRC final draft. Daimary said that the state of Assam has now got an opportunity to see illegal immigrants free state. The NRC authority has published the draft lists on Saturday. He said that 19.06 lakh people's names were dropped out from the final draft lists. Daimary said that the peoples whose names were dropped from the lists, they are illegal immigrants or foreigners because they couldn't show their proper citizenship related documents.
"Illegal immigrants must be deported from the state of Assam whose names were not included in the NRC final draft published today", said Assam Social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma on Saturday. Brahma while hailing the NRC final draft publication, said that this is an implementation part of the historic Assam Accord. KOKRAJHAR: The National Federation of New State (NFNS) has demanded early creation of new smaller states within Indian constitution.  NFNS include  Bodoland, Gorkhaland, Vidharbha, Kuki state, Bundelkhand, Purbanchal and Kari Anglong autonomous state. KOKRAJHAR: At least 16 students hospitalised post consuming  medicines to control worming at Digaldonga in Baksa district on Thursday.
