GU releases Law journal

Guwahati: The Faculty of Law,Gauhati Univerdity released its two acclaimed journals viz. The Gauhati University Journal of Law (GUJL) and Vidhijyoti on Tuesday in the Conference Hall of the department.This was stated in a press communique by the Dept. of Law,Gauhati University.The programme anchored by Dipankar Das where welcome speech was delivered by HoD of Dept. of Law,Gauhati University, Subhram Rajkhowa commenced with the singing of the anthem of Gauhati University, 'Jilikabo Luitore Paar' followed by a Saraswati Vandana. Speaking on the occasion after releasing the Faculty Journal,State Minister Minister of Education,Law and Justice, Siddhartha Bhattacharjya said, “ Law is an evolving subject and changes with demand of time. With the advent of technology courts have moved from typewriters to modern tools reducing the burden of researchers and subjects like cyber law have floated. He further stated that knowledge of law does nit only create lawyers or law officers in corporate, but moulds a person as a good and responsible citizen. Expressing satisfaction over the journals previously published by the department he expressed great hopes that the department will carry forward the rich legacy. Rector,Gauhati University, Prof. H.P Sarma while releasing the Vidhijyoti a research journal appreciated the endeavour of the department in publishing such journal. Registrar-in-charge,Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta reiterating the glories of the University lauded the wholesome effort of the departments and said that Gauhati University has made both qualitative and quantitative growth in the recent past which has fetched it A grade by NAAC and it boasts of its high rank in government universities. The event attended by faculty members,students of different law colleges under the university along with advocates and research scholars concluded with vote of thanks by Sripama Rajkhowa a faculty of the department.

Gang of petty thieves apprehended

TANGLA: In a major sucess for Tangla police apprehended five members of a gang of notorious petty thieves from Tangla weekly market on Friday. Acting on a tip off, a team of Tangla police nabbed the members of the gang identified as Rajendra Rajbongshi(19),Ajoy Pujari(19),Siba Pariga(21),Ashok Tanti(28) residents of Hattigarh TE under Harisinga P.S while Binod Nayak(25) is a resident of Teliapara under Panery P.S in Udalguri. Reportedly,the gang was involved in a number of theft related incidents in the Tangla weekly market and based on a F.I.R lodged by one Mintu Das they were apprehended. Summer dance workshop at Tangla

Revenue officer suspended for graft

TANGLA: The Land and Revenue Department of BTC had suspended a revenue officer of Harisinga Revenue Circle Office on charges of graft on Monday. The long time allegations of a section of public that the officials have to be bribed to move any file where proven true after a video of a revenue officer(Lot Mandal) of the Circle Office caught accepting bribe on camera went viral in social media sites. Reportedly, the revenue officer, identified as one Numal Daimari had allegedly accepted bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a person for registration of land. Women imparted training

  TANGLA: The Public Health Department of Udalguri has taken up a unique initiative to empower the women of the region by conducting a training programme on Women Mason under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) . The programme was initiated with the help of two Self Help Groups viz.
