The 11 hour Assam bandh called by North East Students Organization ( NESO ) and All Assam Student Union ( AASU ) , supported by many other organizations opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 was total in Namrup. The town wore a deserted look as vehicles of all kinds remained off the road. Schools and colleges, shops and markets, banks and offices were seen closed. The bandh supporters burnt tyers at Namrup Sonari Tiniali , BVFCL Main Gate , APL Main Gate and Sarmah Tiniali to stop the movement of vehicles.
The Namrup regional unit of All Assam Student Union ( AASU ) organsied protest against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 by blocking the road and burning tyers at Sonari tiniali. The demonstrators shouted slogans against the state and central governments exibiting play card "Kendriya Government Hai Hai, Raijya Sarkar Murdabad, Mukhyamantri kam nai". More than one hundred AASU activists and local people took part in the protest.
The year long Golden Jubilee of Namrup Sahitya Sabha is coming to an end with various cultural programmes. The programme was inagurated by working president Satrasingh Deuri. Seminar, poetry, cultural night, Book release were part of the event.
Namrup: AASU regional Committee observed the Swahid Divas on Monday with hosting of flag in Namrup Sonari Tiniali Swahid Mandap by regional committee president Kalpajit Gogoi. The largest ancient Hindu festival, dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya (known to be the wife of Surya), Chhath Puja is unique to the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and the country of Nepal. It is the only Vedic festival that is dedicated to the Sun God. The festival was celebrated in Namrup and it's neighbouring area with flavours on Tuesday.
Namrup: There was total bandh in Namrup during the Assam Bandh called by 46 organisations in the state opposing citizenship amendment Bill 2016. Protesters burnt tyres in BVFCL Main Gate, Sonari Tiniali, Namghar Chariali, Salibasa. Marketing complex, Schools, colleges, Government and private offices, Banks were all closed during the bandh.
Namrup: Santak Army Camp of DAO Division and Assam Police arrested three NSCN(R) cadres from Halwating in Sivsagar District on Wednesday. The arrested tri are Youngai (39), Pendum (42) and Nang Sung (35) - all resident of Mokokchung, Nagaland. Police recovered one Chinese Pistol, one magazine and two mobile phones. They were handed over to Halwating police station. The cadres confessed that they assist NSCN(R) in collection of extortion money, involved in arms smuggling.
