Centre reassures Constitutional safeguard for indigenous lots

The Centre will soon set up a high level committee to implement the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord to ensure constitutional safeguard for the indigenous people which many parties and organizations except BJP have called a mere poll gimmick.

Addressing a press conference in the capital after the Union cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Union home minister Rajnath Singh said the committee would suggest the Centre the ways to implement the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, 1985 which has been remaining unimplemented for decades.

Chaired by prime minister Narendra Modi, the cabinet further discussed in detail the Bodo Accord where a few of the clauses have yet to be implemented.

Meanwhile, AASU and many other organizations have slammed the government saying that there was nothing new. The outcome has once again resented those who have been demanding ST status for the 6 ethnic communities.
