In a bid to tap the budding potential of school students in
athletics the 1st Inter-
Udalguri District School Atheletics Meet-2018 was organized here at
Tangla Stadium ground in
Udalguri district on Saturday. The event organized by
Tangla Sports Association was witnessed widespread participation of nearly 300 athletes from 25 different schools of
Udalguri district. The
sports competitions included Running Race,Long Jump,High Jump,Javelin,Discuss,Shotput Throw,
Rally among others were held for both Boys and Girls categories. The opening ceremony was attended by former Panery MLA,Kumud

A wild elephant created havoc in Bamunjuli area of Udalguri district neighbouribg Indo-Bhutan border on Tuesday. The house of one Manju Deka was ransacked at about 3 am on Tuesday. Talking to Assam Times, Deka said "I and my daughter some how saved our lives. Our houses have been ransacked and all our rice consumed by the elephant." The poverty striken family is now looking for government's help.

Opposing BJP Vision Document stand to grant ST status to six communities of the state, Bhergaon District Tribal Sangha burnt copies of the BJP's vision document at Bhergaon on Tuesday. The Sangha also said that the decision of the saffron party to grant ST status to six communities will greatly hamper the indigenous tribal communities of the state. The Sangha also alleged that the much anticipated 1000 crore special package to BTC would not benefit the tribal communities.
