Culprit held, now cry for capital punishment
NAMRUP: People thronged in thousands on the National Highway No 37 in Moran demanding capital punishment of Rajen Hardi whom police have arrested a week after he allegedly raped and killed a minor in Tiloi.
With banners and play cards local residents in large number blocked the busy road in between Sivasagar and Dibrugarh at 11 in the morning for more than 2 hours to mount pressure on the authorities to send the culprit to the gallows.
Hours after the police apprehended Rajen from Lepetkota area the people in the entire area thronged the high way demanding justice for the minor whom Rajen raped and killed before dumping in a river.
According to allegations, Rajen took away the five year old girl child to her mother who was in the nearest hospital. But he instead raped and killed her and went underground on April 2.
Three days after the incident police and local residents recovered the body from a waterbody. The authority has placed the police station officer in charge for failing to nab Rajen. On Monday morning Rajen was apprehended.
The police men probing the case has been interrogating him.

The programme was organsied by daily bazaar shop keepers assoctiation and local people of the area.
The 11 hour Assam bandh called by North East Students Organization ( NESO ) and All Assam Student Union ( AASU ) , supported by many other organizations opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 was total in Namrup. The town wore a deserted look as vehicles of all kinds remained off the road. Schools and colleges, shops and markets, banks and offices were seen closed. The bandh supporters burnt tyers at Namrup Sonari Tiniali , BVFCL Main Gate , APL Main Gate and Sarmah Tiniali to stop the movement of vehicles.
The Namrup regional unit of All Assam Student Union ( AASU ) organsied protest against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 by blocking the road and burning tyers at Sonari tiniali. The demonstrators shouted slogans against the state and central governments exibiting play card "Kendriya Government Hai Hai, Raijya Sarkar Murdabad, Mukhyamantri kam nai". More than one hundred AASU activists and local people took part in the protest.
The year long Golden Jubilee of Namrup Sahitya Sabha is coming to an end with various cultural programmes. The programme was inagurated by working president Satrasingh Deuri. Seminar, poetry, cultural night, Book release were part of the event.

The largest ancient Hindu festival, dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya (known to be the wife of Surya), Chhath Puja is unique to the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and the country of Nepal. Namrup: There was total bandh in Namrup during the Assam Bandh called by 46 organisations in the state opposing citizenship amendment Bill 2016. Protesters burnt tyres in BVFCL Main Gate, Sonari Tiniali, Namghar Chariali, Salibasa. Marketing complex, Schools, colleges, Government and private offices, Banks were all closed during the bandh.
