HOJAI: Amid widespread shock and anger forest minister Pramilarani Brahma threatens to file case against Northeast Frontier Railway a day after a speeding passenger train knocked down four wild elephants in Lanka.
Brahma, who was caught in a barrage of protest during her visit to the spot blamed it all on the railways
She said,"despite several rounds of talks with the railways these incidents are happening. Since the station is at a stone's throw distance could have controlled the speed."
"Let me talk to the DC and SP. Let me institute an enquiry. We will take action. We will file case against the railways," said the forest minister.
Then more than 5000 people who blocked the rail tracks blaming the railways and forest department for the incident called off the blockade.
The incident took place 9.30 at night when the Guwahati-Sil char passenger train mowed down four full grown wild elephants at Hawaijan as the herd was crossing the tracks in search of food.
Another full grown elephant is battling with death after it sustained serious injury in the incident.
A team of veterinary experts from zoo has been attending the animal.
