Joypore an emerging tourists' hotspot

NAMRUP: Literally boxed by Arunachal Pradesh in the east and south and the historic Charaideo in the western side, Assam has yet another paragon of nature's beauty and bounty. Known as Jeypore Reserved Forest in the civil district of Dibrugarh, the abode of many wildlife can now boast of being an emerging tourist hub. The beautiful and potential forest falls under humid and heavy rainfall zone required to be a rainforest. Even in dry season, say from November to March, Joypore remains damp which recorded maximum annual rainfall upto 3640 mm in 1999. Maximum temperature recorded upto stood at 35 degree in 1990 and minimum temperature was 8 degree in 1999.

 The forest forms a part of the world heritage of tropical/ Subtropical wet evergreen forest, multistoried in structure and rich in biodiversity.  It is an abode of Hollong of a height of 50 metres apart from Sopa , Dhuna , Sam , Hollong , Jatuli , Borpat , Mekai , Nahar , Uriam Seleng etc .   The name of some valuable trees with scientific names  found in this forest are as follows :-

Forest officials call it an example of nature beauty which spreads over an area of 108 sq km at  Joypur in Dibrugarh covering an area of 10,876.68 hectares known for more than 40 rare species of animals, more than 320 rare species of wild birds. Some of these are now disappearing from the earth and more than 150 rare species of snakes still exist. The Mumbai-based Natural History Society and Bird Life International Society have conducted a survey at the Jeypore Reserved Forest and renamed as site for Important Bird Area Site.

 In this area Fire Rare types of Owl , various types of eagle , fasu, moupiya bhadarkali. Around 67.7% of birds in this area where 36.3% are seasonal and 23.1% others visit here during winter. Other 2.5% come during summer while 10.7% others stay in the rain forest. The rain forest has an immense scope for emerging as a hotspot for thousands of tourists from the country and abroad. The country's first ever rainforest festival is still celebrated in Jeypore and in a in a bid to boost eco tourism, a three day Joypore Rainforest is included near the forest area from February 11 to 13. But this time it will be celebrated on December 30 and 31 which will include camping inside the  forest  , trekking , rafting ,  bird watching , elephant riding and many more .

ULFA-I rebel held in Sonari

NAMRUP: Police and army claimed to have captured a hardcore ULFA-I rebel during a combing operation in Sonari who was among those threatening a section of coal traders in Nimonagarh and Tiru.Acting on a tip off army troops based at Maibela and Sonari police raided the Hotel Seven Sister where they captured the rebel to be identified as Prasanta Chutia alias Tankeswar.Police further seized a 9 MM pistol, live bullets, a map along with some other incriminating materials from his possession who hails from Lobginori area. ULFA-I rebel held in Namrup

NAMRUP: Army claimed to have apprehended a dreaded ULFA-I rebel a month after he unleashed a reign of terror by firing in Borhat tea garden. He was trapped on March 3. But army have disclosed it only on Sunday. Army’s DAO division who apprehended the rebel has not disclosed the name and claimed to have seized a pistol , four rounds  of live bullets, six extortion letters , mobile phone and driving license.

Army initiatives draw applause in Namrup

NAMRUP: In yet another initiative that brings the commoner more closer to them, Army have started motivating the youths in many area providing the unemployed lots with career counseling to shape their future. Mention may be made of the Joypur and Sapekhati based army camps who have been taking a slew of initiatives to further literacy, generate jobs among the unemployed lots.     After holding a pre-recruitment rally in October last year, the army have shortlisted 122 boys out of 600 participants who were given basic training at Army Camp in Joypur. Twenty seven have cleared physical and medical fitness. Assam HS Exams begin

GUWAHATI:The Assam higher secondary examination begins in science, arts and commerce streams across the state on Friday. Altogether 2,55, 697 candidates are appearing in the examination conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council in 823 centres. An elaborate security is in place to ensure free and fair examination which include installation of CCTV cameras.Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, All Assam Students Union have welcomed the candidates. Army praised for class room initiative

In yet another initiatives that draws huge applause from the people, DAO division Army based in Sapekhati opened a classroom at  M V School Rangabam in Charaideo district on Wednesday.   Army officials, students and teachers along with their parents attended the brief function in the morning. The new classroom will be able to accommodate more than 150 students from the adjoining villages. Those who attended the brief function heaped praised on the initiative to facilitate the students in the entire area.    

HSLC, AHM Exams begin in Namrup

NAMRUP: HSLC and AHM examinations get underway in Namrup along with other places across the state. Altogether 418 students have appeared in Namrup from eleven local schools. According to the officer in charge of the centre tight security is in place to ensure free and fair examination. The examination centre is under strict CCTV surveillance.

Army set up library

NAMRUP: Army’s DAO division camp based at Jaipur in Dibrugarh district opened a library in Tipling Gaon on Thursday. Set up at a local LP school under the operation Sadbhavana, the initiative suggests Army’s campaign to develop literacy, women empowerment, public health and relief and rehabilitation in the area.

Ray of hope for BVFCL

NAMRUP: Flashing a ray of hope for the fourth proposed unit of the BVFCL, Union minister of state for chemical and fertilizer Rao Inderjit Singh held a crucial meeting with Chairman cum Managing Director Shyam Deo Singh in Guwahati on Tuesday. Convened at the Hotel Taj Vivanta, the minister assured the BVFCL delegates of an early step to set up the plant.   He said that the region’s only fertilizer company has been losing concern because of repeated shut down of the existing II and III units. Army’s yeoman service in Charaideo

Namrup: Toklimara, a tiny hamlet in Charaideo district has reasons to heave a sigh of relief. The villagers have no word to say how they feel it after army’s Dao division organized a free medical camp on Tuesday. Organized by the Sapekhati based army camp, the medical camp evoked huge response when medical officer from Joypur Army camp attended more than 400 patients who received free counseling and medicines. Local residents have lauded the initiatives calling it a yeomen service which provided them a huge respite.
