Bike lifters arrested

The namrup police on Friday arrested four persons involved in thefts of two wheeler from Kanubari in Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh. Police recovered one stolen bike from them. The accused have been identified as Mintu gogoi (18, Pranjal gogoi (23), Suraj Hazarika (18) from Abhyapur village and Ratul sonowal (19) from Khermeria village.

According to police, they have acted after a report of stolen bike from the hosue of Anjali Boruah of Dilli Duwania village. Police regisrered a case under IPC 380 and sent the four accused to District Jail in Dibrugarh.

Total bandh in Namrup

The 11 hour Assam bandh called by North East Students Organization ( NESO ) and All Assam Student Union ( AASU ) , supported by many other organizations opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 was total in Namrup. The town wore a deserted look as vehicles of all kinds remained off the road. Schools and colleges, shops and markets, banks and offices were seen closed. The bandh supporters burnt tyers at Namrup Sonari Tiniali , BVFCL Main Gate , APL Main Gate and Sarmah Tiniali to stop the movement of vehicles.

Protest in Namrup against Citizenship Ammendment Bill 2016

The Namrup regional unit of All Assam Student Union ( AASU ) organsied protest against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 by blocking the road and burning tyers at Sonari tiniali. The demonstrators shouted slogans against the state and central governments exibiting play card "Kendriya Government Hai Hai, Raijya Sarkar Murdabad, Mukhyamantri kam nai". More than one hundred AASU activists and local people took part in the protest.

Namrup records 75% voter turnout

Polling concluded peacefully in the  three  panchayats - Kachari Pathar, Namrup and Santipur Panchayat - with 75 percent voter turnout. Situation became tense when more than 50 voters were deprived from voting in Santipur. 

Protest against Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016

Chhat Puja celebrated in Namrup

The largest ancient Hindu festival, dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya (known to be the wife of Surya), Chhath Puja is unique to the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and the country of Nepal. It is the only Vedic festival that is dedicated to the Sun God. The festival was celebrated in Namrup and it's neighbouring area with flavours on Tuesday.  

Namrup opposes citizenship amendment Bill 2016

Namrup: There was total bandh in Namrup during the Assam Bandh called by 46 organisations in the state opposing citizenship amendment Bill 2016. Protesters burnt tyres in BVFCL Main Gate,  Sonari Tiniali, Namghar Chariali, Salibasa. Marketing complex, Schools, colleges, Government and private offices, Banks were all closed during the bandh.
