Kalaigaon gears up for Assembly poll on April 11

Hectic political activities have been seen in 65 Kalaigaon LAC with Assembly election is due on April 11.The picture is not very clear, but from the activities of candidates it could assume that tough contest awaits for sitting AGP MLA Mukunda Ram Choudhury with AGP and BPF leading election campaign followed by UPP and Congress.A four corner contest is seen so far. Fifteen candidates namely- sitting MLA,Mukunda Ram Choudhury,(AGP);former MLA,Maheswar Boro,(BPF);former MLA,Nathu Ram Boro( AIUDF); Babul Basumatari (UPP ); Indrajit Kumar Saikia (Cong);Brajen Mahanta (SJEM);Jitendra Chaliha,(SUCI);Sudhendu Mohan Sarkar,(BGP);Sushil Kumar Sarma (LJP);Arun Baruah,(New AICP);Dr.Nayan Moni Bhagawati (Ind);Radhesyam Chouhan (Ind);Gopal Sarkar,(Ind),Bijoy Das (Ind);Abdul Sabaor (Ind) have filed nominations in 65 Kalaigaon LAC.It needs mention that in the previous Assembly election in 2011, AGP Candidate Mukunda Ram Choudhury defeated BPF candidate Maheswar Boro by comfortable margin.


There are total 154193 voters (male 79542 and female 74651) in the LAC.There are 168 polling stations in Kalaigaon  Assembly constituency out of which 44 polling stations have been identified as hyper sensitive,26 as sensitive and 98 as comparatively safer.Although 102 polling stations of Kalaigaon falls under Udalguri district and only 66 polling stations fall in Darrang district, the ECI has authorised Darrang administration for conuct of the 2016 Assembly election.

Protesting against sharp price rise of essential commodities in the country,more than five hundred people mostly woman staged dharna in front of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office today on September 2 at 11 am on the day of Bharat Bandh.The protesters blocked the main gate of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office preventing government officials and employees including Additional Deputy Commissioner Udalguri.
