108 houses destroyed by elephant in 2015
The man-elephant conflict has taken worst turn in Indo-Bhutan area of Udalguri district. The Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary, Khalingduar forest and Nonai Reserve forest has been deforested by cutting of trees by a section of wood cutters and corrupt forest officials. The land which was once forest has turned out to be tea estates of the aristocrats. Villages have come up on the patg of natural elephant corridor as a result wild elephants in search of food have inhabited human habitation.
The villagers in the Indo-Bhutan border had been spending sleepless nights in fear of the wild jumbos. In the villages under Harisinga revenue circle of Udalguri district namely Bamunjuli, Kali-khola, Orangajuli, Garuajhar, Satgaria, Attarekhat, Nalapara, Rajagarh, Dharamjuli, Borengajuli, Suklai, Gosala, Dimakuchi, Ghagra, Bhutiachang, Sonajuli, Naobandha every year a seizable number of human have lost their lives, property, crops etc. Within a night the human dreams and lives become shattered. It needs mention that 22 people and eight wild elephants had been killed during 2014 in Udalguri district which was considered as the highest man-elephant-conflict casualty anywhere in Asia.
In 2015 under Harisinga Revenue circle of 33 Nonwi Serfang BTC constituency 108 houses constructed by the givernment under Indira Awaas Yojana belonging to poverty ridden villagers were destroyed by wild jumbos. Out of which include 25 in Nonaikhuti, 23 in Bamunjuli, 8 in Khagunbahi,16 in Tukhibasti,23 in Rajagarh,16 in Bhulatara and 7 in Kali-Khola. Since The panic striken villagers have appealed the local authorities and government to build houses in form of watch towers under Indira Awaas Yojana in the affected areas which are considerably safe.

TANGLA: The Land and Revenue Department of BTC had suspended a revenue officer of Harisinga Revenue Circle Office on charges of graft on Monday. The long time allegations of a section of public that the officials have to be bribed to move any file where proven true after a video of a revenue officer(Lot Mandal) of the Circle Office caught accepting bribe on camera went viral in social media sites. TANGLA: In a tragic incident, a mother and her son got electrocuted by unauthorized electric cable laid by villagers to deter the wild elephants at Majuligrant village along the Indo-Bhutan border in Udalguri on Sunday morning.
