5 AANLA cadres arrested

Five All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA) cadres, who were engaged in extortion and miscreant activities for a long time in various parts of Assam-Nagaland border, were arrested by the security personnel. According to Police sources in the night of 20th June a joint team of Assam Police and 142 Battalion of C.R.P.F., headed by S.D.P.O. Dhansiri conducted a search operation in the Doldoli area of Merapani near Assam-Nagaland border. During the search operation five cadres of AANLA were arrested. The arrested cadres were Bobai Kurmi (20), Bimal Kurmi (19), Mahesh Kurmi (19), Sanjib Kurmi (19) and Kumud Langa (25). The police also recovered a money collecting pad, some letters demanding money and two mobile handsets from the arrested persons.

Compared to other States of India, why are the youths of North-East India so very much into 'Easy Money'? Is it because the older generation is very corrupt too? A Seminar or debate can be held on this topic...it should include students, surrendered militants, govt officials et al in the discussion.

Militants open fires on NH 37

Fund crunch hits ATM service in Golaghat

Now a days the ATM service in Golaghat has no longer been a 24 hour utility service. Most of the ATMs in Golaghat are either being closed or runs on a first come first serve basis. This situation has been prevailing for the last three months. Four injuted in leopard attack near Golaghat

In yet another incident of man-animal conflict, two persons were attacked by a leopard as the wild cat ambushed them in the Naharbari Tea Estate under Juria Dolong Beat Office of Golaghat District. NRHM scam at Golaghat, one suspended

Coins donated by Assam Chamber of Commerce

In the present time people are running from pillar to post for small denomination coins and currency notes as they come handy in day to day life for various activities. Moreover the RBI’s recent abandonment of 25 paisa coins has aggravated the already existing scarcity of small denomination currency units. So in a time of such a crisis the Golaghat unit of Assam Chamber of Commerce today donated coins and currency notes of Re.1, Rs.2, Rs. 5, Rs.10 etc of about Rs. 1,30,000/- to the State Bank of India, Golaghat Branch. This step on the part of Chamber of Commerce comes as a great relief to general public when small denomination coins and currency notes are scarce on Wednesday.
