An awareness seminar on Right to Information (RTI) Act was organised by Kohora Soil Conservation Division at the Conference Hall of the Guest House of Kohora S.C. Division. The officers & staff of this Division and other Project Members actively participated by way of giving their views and opinions on the subject. The seminar was held to discuss the benefits and limitations of the RTI act. Mondip Chutia, Divisional Officer Kohora Soil Conservation Division welcomed all the guests and participants to the occasion. Devojit Phukan, President of Vox-Populi, an NGO working in various RTI activities, who was the chief Resource Person on the occasion said that any information gains the value only if it reaches the common man and the officials should understand it. He also said that the 'Right to Information Act 2005' (RTI) is intended not only towards the fulfillment of constitutionally granted rights of the people as part of their personal liberty but also to make functioning of each of the Government Department, more transparent, accountable and obligating them to take the necessary corrective measure. Phukan further added that since the RTI Act is a powerful tool in the hands of the common people to avail their right to access official information, it is very much necessary on the part of each social activist to see that the RTI Rules made by the State Govt is in perfect harmony with the letter and spirit of the mother Act.
