5 AANLA cadres arrested

Five All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA) cadres, who were engaged in extortion and miscreant activities for a long time in various parts of Assam-Nagaland border, were arrested by the security personnel. According to Police sources in the night of 20th June a joint team of Assam Police and 142 Battalion of C.R.P.F., headed by S.D.P.O. Dhansiri conducted a search operation in the Doldoli area of Merapani near Assam-Nagaland border. During the search operation five cadres of AANLA were arrested. The arrested cadres were Bobai Kurmi (20), Bimal Kurmi (19), Mahesh Kurmi (19), Sanjib Kurmi (19) and Kumud Langa (25). The police also recovered a money collecting pad, some letters demanding money and two mobile handsets from the arrested persons.

Compared to other States of India, why are the youths of North-East India so very much into 'Easy Money'? Is it because the older generation is very corrupt too? A Seminar or debate can be held on this topic...it should include students, surrendered militants, govt officials et al in the discussion.

Rail blockade at Golaghat demanding release of Akhil Gogoi

Nearly 1200 members of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity, Nari Mukti Sangram Samity and Brihattar Tengani Mukti Sangram Samity staged a rail blockade programme at Jamuguri, Furkating and Borpathar at Golaghat District from 11 am to 2 pm on Tuesday, demanding the immediate release of peasant leader and firebrand RTI activist Akhil Gogoi. As a result of the blockade, the movement of Janasatabdi Express, Amritsar Express and a Passenger train was disrupted at Jamuguri, Furkating and Borpathar respectively. The blockade was called off temporarily at 2 pm but the organisations have warned of more strict and severe agitation in the coming days if Akhil Gogoi is not released in the next few days.

KMSS observe jail bharo at Golaghat

Golaghat affected by KMSS bandh

Normal life has been affected today in Golaghat following a 12-hour Assam Bandh called by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity. The whole of Golaghat Town were a deserted look during the Bandh. There has been no incident of violence reported. The Bandh has been called against the arrest of firebrand RTI activist and leader of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity Akhil Gogoi. Assamese girl burnt in Bangalore for dowry

An Assamese lady has been alleged to be burnt by her husband in Bangalore on 19th June. The incident is another gory death caused by increasing dowry demand by the victim’s husband. The victim, Priakhi Baruah, 19, of Balijan in Golaghat District, had married Apurba Saikia of Jamunamukh in Nagaon District, in January this year. Family sources of Priyakhi revealed that the accused Apurba Saikia was harassing the victim for dowry, since their marriage. Election expenditure of candidates submited for Golaghat and Khumtai LAC
