In a move that can definitely affect the hotel industry in Kaziranga, the National Green Tribunal has questioned the permission of so many hotels near the world heritrage site.
A bench of the panel comprising Justice Swatanter Kumar asked the forest secretary to along with the KazirangaNational Park director to explain the measures to ensure the park an eco-sensitive zone.
The panel further has asked the Assam government to clear its position on eco-sensitive zones.
The bench said on Friday, “we direct that the State of Assam shall submit its clear stand in relation to: declaration of Eco Sensitive Zone, Pattas which were primarily for agricultural purposes and at best incidental residential construction; and how it has resulted in State permitting large scale hotels projects in and around Kaziranga."
The tribunal is quite unhappy with the report filed on behalf of Assam government with regard to eco-sensitive zones saying it was not in compliance with earlier directions and orders.
