Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Setback on industrial front!

An Assam government panel dealing with the state’s industrial development observed adverse impact of the withdrawal of the North East Industrial Investment policy. Preside over by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, the meeting of the committee expressed grave concern over the setback to the investment due to the Centre’s decision to withdraw the policy. Threat to ULFA peace process

Pro talks ULFA leaders on Sunday threaten to pull of the peace process if the Centre sticks to its delaying tactics.The top pro talk ULFA leaders who met in Guwahati said that they were quite unhappy with the way the Centre is proceeding to deal with the issue. Disquieting trend in arms trade

A home ministry report finds a safe route of arms smugglers in the north eastern state of Assam. Security forces have seized 1705 illegal arms in the state during the last four years.According to the report from January to June this year alone 187 illegal weapons have been seized by the security forces suggesting the growing cases of arms smuggling. This is apart from the seizure of 525 arms in 2012. The number of illegal arms seized in 2013 stands at 542 against 451 such seizure in 2014. Manipur is not lagging behind in the seizure of illegal firearms. Tuki witnesses historic pact signing

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Sunday witnessed the historic accord signed between the Nyishis and Apatanis at a conglomeration of hundreds of members of both the communities as well as members of various community-based organizations from across the state. Rainwater havoc in Guwahati

Rainwaters are back in Guwahati to wreak havoc in the leading north eastern city. Many parts of the city are coming under the rainwaters after heavy down pour lashed the city on Sunday morning.Heavy traffic snarl for water logging disrupted normal life on the RG Baruah Road making it difficult for the pedestrians for several hours. Simmering protest refuses to die down in Manipur even a month after the orgy of violence kept Churachandpur on the boil. Various women protesters are taking out protest rallies on Sunday in different areas in the restive hills district a day after more than 1 lakh protesters formed 15 km long human chain raising their demands.These include immediate withdrawal of the three controversial bills apart from action against the policemen who killed nine protestors. Defying an inclement weather women in many groups are staging sit ins in at least 7 to 8 places on Sunday raising the same demands.     

Where is Gopi Das? 3 held

The Hatigaon police have arrested three youths and charged them with keeping Gopinath Das at an undisclosed location who is wanted in connection with a rape case. Picked up from their residence at Bhaskarnagar area in the city on Saturday night, they are brother in laws of the Boko MLA who has been absconding from September 7 after he raped his minor domestic help.
