Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Alert in tea garden areas

Police and para military forces are on maximum alert in the tea garden areas apprehending an orgy of violence over the bonus impasse.In a message to the DCs and SPs, the authorities have asked them to ensure round the clock vigil in the tea community dominated areas saying an impending agitation over bonus payment might take a violent turn in the run up to the Durga puja.The Assam government has already announced 20 per cent bonus for the ACTL owned tea garden workers. But the other gardens, mostly, have denied 20 per cent bonus which might erupt protest among the workers.       

MTFA militants held in Chirang

Security forces in Kokrajhar district captured two militants of Muslim Tiger Force of Assam from Kursyakati in Kokrajhar district on Friday. Identified as Haider Ali and Habibur Rahman, the duo were arrested during a joint raid by police and para military forces who further seized a country made riffle from their possession.

Cabinet expansion on Tuesday

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is all set for a minor expansion of his cabinet on Tuesday. According to sources available with Assam Times, Gogoi will induct Gautom Roy and Siddique Ahmed six months before the assembly polls. IITian found dead

A B Tech student is believed to have committed suicide in the morning leaving the Guwahati IIT in utter shocked on Friday.Identified as Ujjal Salil, the body of student from Bihar was found at the campus early in the morning. The inmate of the Brahmaputra Hostel was suspected to have jumped to the ground.Police recovered the body and investigation is going on. This is the third such tragic incident at the country’s premier seat of science and technology in Guwahati during the last 12 months.

Deficiency in health department

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday admitted deficiency in the health department because of inadequate doctors and nurses.Addressing a CII meeting on health care in Guwahati, Gogoi said that the state has been falling short of doctors, nurses and medicine to combat the increasing number of patients. His comment assumes significance at a time when dengue outbreak grips the state.
