Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Curious UFO in sky!

An unidentified object hovering around the sky in upper Assam pulled no less spell of curiosity among lakhs of people on Wednesday evening.Much to the utter surprise and curiosity, the comet like object was spotted in the sky in and around the Naharkatiya area at around 9 in the evening forcing the people to come out of their homes to watch the strange objects. NSCN-K targets Silchar bridge

Driver, elephant killed in truck mishap

An elephant and its driver were killed when a truck rammed into the animal on which three people were travelling on the national highway in Khetri area on Thursday. The tragic incident took place in the wee hours when the speeding truck hit the elephant as it was trying to overtake the tame animal which was coming from Sonapur to Jagiroad.The elephant drivers Kamal Boro and his Mohan Basumatary fell seriously injured. Kamal was shifted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to injury. Assam students rescued from hostage

The Meghalaya police on Wednesday rescued two students from Assam 3 days after they were kidnapped from West Garo hills.Identified as Liakat Ali and Mosassar Hossain, the minors were rescued from Balapara village near Ampati in South West Garo Hills.“They were rescued from Balapara village on Wednesday”, said Aditya Goenka, superintendent of police from South West Garo Hills. Ganja seized in Dimapur

Kohima police deployed at Peducha check gate seized 300 kgs of contraband ganja worth 15, 00,000 from a person on Wednesday.Identified as Siddique Ali from Furkating, he arrested in Dimapur for possession and transportation of the contraband. Police registered a case under the NDPS Act against him in this connection.

Online booths for AR recruitment

The Assam Rifles has set up online registration booths at Dimapur, Medziphema and Jalukie for the recruitment rally slated from November 5 to 10 in Kohima.The booths have been set up to facilitate registration of local youths for the recruitment rally at the Indira Gandhi Stadium.At the booths, information will also be provided for recruitment rallies scheduled at Shillong from December 3 to 5 and Tamulpur, Assam from October 15 to 24.The facility has been created in confirmation to the new recruitment rules promulgated by the Army. Protest misdirected: VK Singh
