Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

English novel on Srimanta Sankaradeva released

THE REDEEMER, an English novel written by Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti based on the life of Srimanta Sankaradeva was released on June 11, 2016 in Nagaon Press Club, Nagaon. The novel was released by Dr Ratul Bora, Registrar of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya. He compared the author Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti with Dimbeswar Neog in dedication. World Anti Child labour day marked by Human Chain

A human chain comprising of around a 100 children raising slogans against child labour was today organized on the occasion of Anti Child Labour Day, by the Centre of Development Initiative (CDI) jointly with the Ferrando Domestic Workers Alliance and National Domestic Workers Movement (NDWM) near Dighali Pukhuri Guwahati on Sunday. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday in New Delhi a day after he reached the capital. Journalist Nand Kishor Gupta (46), breathed his last yesterday in Mumbai was laid to rest today (10 June) after necessary rituals. Mortal remains of Gupta were taken to Guwahati by a morning flight and he was paid last tribute by the members of Guwahati Press Club on way to his city residence. Senior journalist Nand Kishor Gupta (46) breathed his last at the Mumbai airport around 3.10 pm today (9 June 2016) on his way back to Guwahati. A member of Guwahati Press Club, Gupta was suffering from gallbladder cancer and was referred to the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai for his treatment. He left for Mumbai on June 3 last. Poaching riddles Kaziranga; rhino killed

After a brief lull, poaching starts riddling Kaziranga again. Poachers killed a rhino and took away the horn from the national park on Wednesday hours after Pramila Rani Brahma got tougher with the officials. The incident took place at the Agoratoli range of the world heritage site in the wee hours where the forest guards got to hear the sound of gun firing near the Demow camp.
