Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Protest demonstration in front of press club

Condemning against the brutal killing of two scribes in Bihar and Jharkhand this week and demanding justice for the victim families, a protest demonstration has been organized in front of Guwahati Press Club tomorrow (Monday) at 2.30 pm. JFA condemns scribes’ murders in central India

ournalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expressed shock over the murder of two scribes in separate incidents in central India and urged the authorities to punish the culprits under the law. The forum also appealed to the media fraternity of the country to get united in the process of delivering justice to the victim families with distinctive punishment to each & every single perpetrator. NGO launches mass drug abuse awareness

With rising incidents of drug abuse among youths across Assam, a leading non-government organization of the State launched a mass awareness campaign about the issue with an aim to save the upcoming generations from the impending danger. “We are deeply concerned about the growing drug menace in Assam. The rising trend of drug abuse among youths, more particularly in the student community, is alarming,” said Khasrul Islam of Ajmal Foundation. Indo-Bangla border documentary show at press club

A documentary covering various salient features of the situation prevailing at Indo-Bangla (Assam) border areas, will be shown at Guwahati Press Club on Friday at 2 pm. The man behind the 17 minute Audio–visual, advocate Upamanyu Hazarika will be present on the occasion. The Supreme Court advocate will also interact with the scribes on the relevant issues.

Book on urbanization released at press club

An English book on urbanization, authored by Dr Brajendra Saikia, was released on Tuesday at Guwahati Press Club. Published by EBH Publications (India), the book titled Urbanization, Urban Sprawl and the Periphery is based on various studies dealing with the socio-economic implications of urbanization in Assam. Former bureaucrat turned columnist JP Saikia, senior police officer cum author Kuladhar Saikia, economist Ananta Kalita and journalist Nava Thakuria graced the occasion and expressed their views on urbanization of Guwahati in particular.

JFA pursues for wage board benefits to media employees

Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA), while maintaining its demand for all due benefits to media employees including the journalists in accordance with the guidelines of Majithia wage board, urged the managements of media houses in the region to implement the latest wage board recommendations to show respect to the apex court of the country. Jeevan Study reveals daily lifestyle of youth

Volunteers’ association Jeevan Initiative has conducted a study based on a survey among the youths studying in various colleges and universities in Guwahati regarding their daily lifestyle. Interesting facts have emerged out of its findings mostly about their social media behavior. The study findings have been made public today. 30% male and 24% female in the city go to their bed after 12 midnight. Among them 8-9% go to bed after 2 am. Hepatitis-B camp at press club

The second dose of Hepatitis-B vaccine, who took the first dose of vaccine at Guwahati Press Club last month, will be administered tomorrow (7 May 2016) at the same venue. FORUM-ASIA condemns Tawang killing

The Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) strongly condemns the excessive use of force by police which has led to the death of two protestors in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh in the north-eastern state of India on 2 May 2016. Two people were shot dead by police at around 4 p.m. and many were injured when a group of people protested against the arrest of Mr. Lobsang Gyatso, a Buddhist monk who has been actively opposing mega dam projects in Tawang.
