Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Gogoi dead opposed to oil field auction

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi took on the Centre opposing the move to auction 12 oil fields along with dozens of oilfields across the country. Assam bandh meets partial response

JFA demands action against lady scribe killer

Expressing shocks at the mysterious death of a lady scribe in Punjab, the Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) demands an authentic probe into the incident to find the culprits and book them under the law. Freelance scribe Anshita Bawa (22) died under a strange situation on 22 April 2016 when she went to meet her friends, but she did not reach them. Rights convention raises major demands

A huge convention of human rights organizations in New Delhi recently outlined four major demands before the government to heal the wounds of the torture victims. Attended by human rights experts, activists, lawyers, journalists. Doctors and academics, the national convention in the capital asked the government to ratify the convention against torture which has been pending since 1997. The convention further demanded a new bill to in Parliament to prevent the torture incorporating within it the recommendations of the Select Committee of Parliament. Emphasizing on preventive healthcare initiatives for the media persons a special program titled ‘Evening with a Doctor’ is mooted at the premises of Guwahati Press Club (GPC). Under this program a practicing doctor will be available for free consultations on healthcare issues for the benefit of GPC member-journalists along with their close relatives. Change in Act to safeguard immigrants!

The Centre is believed to have been clearing the decks to grant refugee status to the Hindu Bangladeshi immigrants. According to highly placed sources the home ministry is finetuning some changes in the vital clauses of the Indian Citizenship Act 1955 to enable these migrants to stay in the country. Flood woes in Goalpara

Flash flood have started wreaking havoc in Goalpara district displacing thousands of people during the last couple of days. The major rivers in the district have been overflowing following the heavy downpour in Meghalaya and the surging waters have inundated a huge area in the lower Assam district where thousands of people in several villages have been affected. The situation is expected to take a grim turn if the rains refuse to halt.

AASU plans massive stir

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) is all set to hit the streets again if the Centre fails to scrap the move for Indian citizenship to the Hindu Bangladeshi immigrants. The state’s influential student organization, in a statement made it plain and simple that never it would allow the immigrants who came to Assam after March 24, 1971 to remain in the state. AASU has threatened to launch a statewide massive movement to detect and deport the immigrants in question.    According to AASU, the Centre’s move is quite contrary to the Assam Accord which is not acceptable under any circumstance.

Oil field auction: Police thrash KMSS protesters

Many people sustained injury when security forces sprang upon a group of KMSS activists in Guwahati who opposed the process to auction a dozen of oil fields in Assam on Saturday. The incident took place in front of the Hotel Redision Blue in the outskirt of the city where petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan was meeting the interested bidders in the morning.
