Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

The monsoon woes refuse to die out on Sunday when incessant rains resulted in the swallowing water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries. Union minister of state for railway Rajen Gohain blames it all on the third force for the recent Raha incident where a local protestor was killed in police firing. Talking to reporters in Raha after visiting the widow of the firing victim Mintu Deori on Sunday, Gohain, who is also the MP from Nagaon said that without the involvement of the third force the incident would have taken place. Security forces claimed to have gunned down three hard core NDFB-S rebels during a series of counter insurgency operations in Kokrajhar district on Sunday. The three insurgents were killed in three different incidents of shoot outs in the wee hours. According to information, they were killed in encounters at a dense jungle. An escalating tension keeps Raha on the boil after a local resident died in police firing when he along with thousands of people enforced a bandh on the National Highway No 37 demanding the proposed AIIMS in the area. Local residents in large number thronged the vital road forcing police and para military forces to sprang upon them in the morning. A section of agitated people tried to attacked the convoy of MLA Piyush Hazarika on his way to the house of Mintu Deori, who was killed in Friday’s police firing. Hours after he was elected as the CLP leader in Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu staked claimed to form the new Government in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday. The high voltage political drama in Arunachal Pradesh is a staggering blow for BJP. The saffron party legislators gave outside support to the Kalikho Pul Government after the Centre lifted the president’s Rule. A group of ministers faced no less wrath of the local people in Raha on Saturday when they visited the family members of Mintu Deori who was killed in police firing on the national Highway No 37.
