Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

All out against Centre

A huge convention in Guwahati on Saturday has vehemently opposed the Centre’s move to accord refugee status to the neighbouring Hindu nationals fearing that the north eastern state would have to bear the brunt. The overall flood scene refuses to improve on Saturday where the toll has gone up to 36 following the death of 8 more people on Friday alone. The river Brahmaputra and its tributaries have still been flowing dangerously submerging more areas in 22 districts affecting over 25 lakh people. Declare flood & erosion national calamity

The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has demanded an urgent measure by the Centre to declare Assam flood and erosion as a national calamity. This is apart from a prompt action to save Majuli from the brink. Woes of waters for wild animals

Flood waters have been wreaking no less havoc for the birds and animals in national parks and sanctuaries. Rhinos along with wild animals have shifted to the near by hill in the Kaziranga National Park which is completely submerged. Many deer are believed to have been washed away. Rajnath coming on Saturday

Union home minister Rajnath Singh will be on a day long visit to Assam to take stock of the situation where 27 people lost their lives till Friday. The Union minister is expected to arrive in Guwahati at 10 in the morning and would make an aerial survey in some flood–hit districts. Before leaving back to New Delhi, Singh will talks with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to assess the situation. Guwahati under threat!

The rising water level of the Brahmaputra threatens to wash away the landmark areas in Guwahati very soon. The mighty river has been dangerously flowing following the incessant rains in the catchment areas in Arunachal Pradesh. If the water level refuses to recede, Kamrup DC office, CJM Court, GMC office might come under the surging waters along with some parts of Fancybazar area by Thursday.
