Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Rhino meets watery grave in Kaziranga

A full grown rhino met watery grave in Kaziranga leaving the animal lovers in utter shock on Monday. Forest guards in the Agaratoli range of the national park have recovered the floating carcass in the morning. Flood scene deteriorates

The overall scene deteriorates further with the rise of water level if the Brahmaputra and its tributaries following incessant rains across the state on Sunday. The surging waters have submerged more and more areas rendering over 4 lakh people in 15 districts where two people lost their lives. The worst-hit district include Dibrugharh, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Sonitpur, Goalpara anfd Kokrajhar where NDRF and army personnel have been deployed in relief and rescue operations. More rains compounds misery

More rains might compound the flood fury in the next couple of weeks in Assam. The famed Kaziranga National Park, Pobitora wildlife Sanctuary have been reeling under waters fetching brimful misery for the one horn rhinos and other birth and animal. New platform for NE scribes formed

With an aim for initiating professional excellence, raising voices for social-financial security to scribes and finally developing a comprehensive platform for the working journalists of northeast India, a new organization named North East Union of Working Journalists (NEUWJ) has been mooted. Luitpar Club initiative for book reading

Luitpar Club in Narengi Campus of Oil India Limited recently organized a unique initiative for encouraging reading habit among the residents, primarily the young people in the colony. The club supplied various books in Assamese, English, Hindi and Bengali language to the households under Rasaraj Lakshminath Bezbaruah mobile library. AHRC orders probe into Raha firing

The Assam State Human Rights Commission has asked the government to probe the recent police firing in Raha where a local protester was killed. A division bench of the panel comprising Dr Justice AH Saikia and Tarun Phookan issued notice to the Chief Secretary to get the probe done by an officer of the rank of secretary and to submit the findings within the next 30 days.A local protestor Mintu Deori was killed and several others sustained serious injury when police opened fire on a group of protestors at Raha who tried to enforce a bandh on July 16 demanding the proposed AIIMS in the area.  

Price rise brews more protests

The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) hit the streets with a 5-hour statewide demonstration demanding measures to check  price hike by the government.AJYCP leaders and activists in large numbers thronged the district headquarters in the morning where they staged the demo.
