In a big development in the state’s political arena, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma joined BJP.

The power former minister in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet formally joined the saffron party after his initial meeting with BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday.

Patharkandi: An uneasy situation is prevailing in Pathorkandhi when a trader allegedly raped a minor girl on Friday. Identified as  Munna Kanu, the 51 old businessman was arrested under mounting pressure by the local residents. Guwahati: Amid the country wide lockdown Assam has reasons to heave a sigh of relief as the figure of COVID-19 patients has come down to 21 from 34 on Saturday. For almost 3 weeks now, Salesian College Sonada and its Siliguri Campus have been using on-line facility for teaching-learning as well as research. An on-line Longitudinal Study on the Attitudinal Changes to the Covid -19 lockdown both for students and faculty is into its 3rd week. Hail storm hits state hard

GUWAHATI: A huge hailstorm accompanied by thunder and lightening on Thursday night heavily disrupted normal lives in many parts of the state on Friday. The storm started lashing the capital city of Guwhati  at around 9-30 in the evening where roads were submerged with rainwaters. In the lower Assam districts of Goalpara, Barpeta also the stormed disrupted the surface communication. COVID19 patient dead in Silchar

Silchar: The state registered the loss of it's first COVID19 patient when Faizul Islam Borbhuyan passed away at the Silchar Medical College Hospital on Friday. Borbhuyan, the 28th patient COVID 19 patient, who was around 65 years of age,  shown some strange symptoms and was rushed to SMCH a couple of years back from Hailakandi. According to health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, he died in the week hours since he was having some breathing problem since he was admitted to the hospital.  Notably as many as 24 patients who have tested negative a number of times might be released on Friday or Saturday.
