Politicians, intellectuals and social activists on Wednesday stressed an united efforts both by Delhi and Dispur to implement the Assam Accord in letter and spirit.

Participating at a AASU-sponsored seminar on the Assam Accord in New Delhi, the speakers said that the remaining hurdles that delays the implementation of the pact should be removed at an earlier date to prevent further delay.

In his address, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyer said the Accord must be implemented with good will both from Delhi and Dispur. He further dwelt at length the hurdles that delays the implementation of the pact.

Former Chief Election Commissioner HS Brahma said either state or the Centre must take the maximum risk to avoid any further delay.

Thirty years have passed since the Centre signed the pact with AASU to detect and deport the Bangladeshi immigrants. But the main clauses of the Pact remains untouched. AASU organized the seminar at the Constitution Club to take the issue to the nation.
