A team of Tripura police is arriving in Guwahati on March 10 to take away 16 children two weeks after they were rescued from the Guwahati Railway station.Tripura police officials told reporters on Thursday that the team comprising North Tripura police officials would formally take these Reang refugee children into their custody and would bring them back to their parents.Since February 25, 19 children have been staying at a camp who are waiting for their parents to come. Assam on Wednesday has asked the Centre not to change the funding pattern. The Assam government is fully prepared to deal with the swine flu outbreak. This was what health minister Dr Nazrul Islam told the Assam Assembly on Wednesday after the state registered five cases of H1N1 outbreak.According to Dr Islam, five persons have tested positive adding that the infection is not serious in nature.Responding to query in the Zero hours, the minister said that the infected persons - three in Dibrugarh and one in Guwahati have not been admitted to the hospital. Governor PB Acharya has expressed grave concerned over the unstoppable rhino poaching incidents in Kaziranga over the years.Hours after the shocking incident, he asked for a report from park director M.K. Yadav to examine the real factors that failed to protect the one horn animal. Acharya is learnt to have favoured a complete overhaul of the security arrangements at the park .
Despite round the clock vigil, rhino poaching refuses to die down in Kaziranga. Poachers have struck the abode of one horn rhino on Wednesday sending shock and anger across the state.Forest authorities told Assam Times that the poachers killed a full grown rhino at Burhapahar range in the wee hours. The horn is missing from the carcass that bears bullet injuries.This is the sixth rhino poaching incident that riddles the world heritage site this year alone.
