Police arrested Akhil Gogoi and Kamal Medhi on Tuesday when they were staging a fast unto death near the APSC premises against irregularities in the Commission-conducted examination apart from demanding removal of the APSC Chairman from the post and also a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the 2013 civil service examinations. The overall flood scene turns more grim with more areas coming under the surging waters on Wednesday. Flood waters continue to wreak havoc in Kaziranga, Pobitora and Sibru Saikhowa following the rise in the water levels of the Brahmaputrea.Flood waters in Kaziranga have forced the animals to shift for the high lands. Rhinos, tigers, deers along with others are leaving for the Karbi hills in Kaziranga.The picture is not different from the Dibru Saikhowa. The panic stricken wild horses are sneaking into the human habitats seeking shelter forcing the authorities to ensure tight vigil.

While the Brahmaputra flowed above the danger mark in Nimatighat in Jorhat and Dhubri, its tributaries washed away roads, embankments and bridges in various districts.

A team of police from Guwahati is seeking transit remand for four NDFB militants two days after they were apprehended in Bengaluru.Identified as Tonon Basumatri, Sundun Basumatri, Nerson Basumatri and Jibnal Nersary, they would be brought to Guwahati for interrogatin by police and other investigation agencies.According to police, they were hiding in their Laggere house, near Peenya to be raided on Friday.
