Shakuntala, the daughter of former minister Lalit Doley and wife of former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Jarbom Gamlin has alleged intimidation by a section of bureacrates not to take over.
He was Lt Governor Jung who appointed her in the top post defying the chief minister's opposition who calls her corrupt.

Normal life came to a grinding halt in central districts following a 12 hour bandh call by a platform of 12 organizations on Tuesday. Vehicles, mostly, refused to ply on the road from 6 in the morning while shops and markets remained closed under the impact of the bandh demanding simultanesous polls for Tiwa autonomous body in the central districts. In some places a section of bandh supporters tried to stop the movement of vehicles by burning tyres on the road. Some others damaged a few vehicles by pleting stones for defying the bandh.
Kamakhya temple premises turns into a sea of humanity as Ambubachai festival gets underway on Monday.Amid tight security arrangement, lakhs of devotees and tourists are thronging the ancient temple premises to get a glimpse of the annual fair.Nearly five thousands of pilgrims have arrived in the shrine last week. After a brief respite the flood situation again deteriorated following further rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday. The water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries started rising in the morning wreaking more havoc in Barpeta, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Morigaon and Lakhimpur districts.The fury has already rendered over 3 lakh people homeless. The worst-hit district is Lakhimpur where over 9,200 people have been trapped to be followed by Barpeta with around 6,100 hit people.According to government report, over 1,600 hectares of crop areas were under water currently. Stung by allegations of corruption, APSC chairman Rakesh Paul said that he was ready to face any probe.Talking to reporters after meeting Governor PB Acharya on Sunday, Paul said that he had done no wrong in the recent civil service examination where he alleged to have selected unfit candidate for money. He cleared before the Governor his position that the civil service examination was free and fair and that he did not take bribe from any body to help a candidate select in the examination. ……
Governor PB Acharya has asked chief minister Tarun Gogoi to complete the probe on the APSC corruption allegation latest by the next 15 days. If the chief minister fails, he would himself order the probe. Acharya informed it to APW when the organization sent a delegation to him on Sunday.

In a bid to put at rest the controvrersy over the ACS examination, Governor PB Acharya is meeting APSC chairman Rakesh Paul on Sunday.Acharya invited Paul after he listened to the allegations by a Assam Public Works delegation on Saturday. The delegation was also present in the meeting at the Raj Bhawan where Paul cleared his position. A six-member APW delegation met the Governor at the Raj Bhawan on Saturday and alleged rampant corruption in APSC at the instance by the Chairman.
Governor PB Acharya will not order fresh probe into the allegations of corruption in APSC. Sources told Assam Times that in view of the chief minister’s order for probe into the allegations, the governor is averse to do it.
A leading business is feared to have commited suicide after killing his wife anf two daughters in Guwahati. But the body of the businessman is yet to be recovered. Identified as Pranab Mahanta, the businessman residing in Hatigaon area in the city is believed to have jumped into the Brahmaputra after claiming the responsibility of killing his three family members on Saturday.He was believed to have killed his family members with hammar where wife Priyanka Mahanta, daughters Adhrita Mahanta and Akshunna Mahanta died on Saturday morning.His vehicle was recovered from the Saraighat bridge over the Brahmaputra where he was believed to have killed himself.
The overall flood scene seems to have improved on Sunday following the halt of rains that lashed parts of the state along with other neighbouring areas. But the blue refuses to die down where over 2 lakh people hav been reeling under the surging waters of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries. Official sources told Assam Times that the worst hit districts are Barpeta, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Morigaon and Lakhimpur over 150 villages have come under the flood.Barpeta district had the most persons hit by the flood at 10,000, followed by Morigaon with nearly 4,000 people.Over 1,800 hectares of crop areas are under water currently.
