Centre’s NO to ST status

The centre has rejected the demands for ST status to six ethnic tribes forcing many organizations to hit the streets.

Ministry for tribal affairs sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that after a thorough study the authorities have  rejected the demands ST status for tea garden workers, Ahoms, Koch Rajbanshi, Chutias and Muttocks citing lack of laid down norms.

The decision is set to run into a hail of protest in Delhi and Dispur. The demand was long standing and both Delhi and Dispur have been assuring these ethnic tribes of their due status for the last ten years.

Both Congress and BJP promised S status for the 6 ethnic tribes for overall uplift.

This exposes the governments scandalous motives and false poll promises. This also goes against the spirits of the Pro Talks faction of ULFA , whom the government had promised the STfication of the state .Successive governments have done this and the present has proved that they are no better than the previous.

GUWAHATI: Good news for the north region on its agriculture front. Nova Biotech opened its organic bio-fertilizer plant recently in Guwahati fetching hopes to millions of farmers in the region. Noted social worker Ridhkaran Surana opened the plant at a function near Lokhra in the city on Friday. GUWAHATI: A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck massive panic in Assam early in the morning on Saturday. Originated at Gauripur in Dhubri, the tremor jolted the entire state at 6.45 in the morning forcing many people in the high rise buildings in the urban areas to come down to the open space.
