Dharna against shifting of fishery college

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and All Tiwa Students' Union, AJYCP Raha units and residents of Raha town on Thursday brought out a massive protest rally in Raha town on Thursday protesting the shifting of College of Fisheries, Raha to Kachamari, a sub-urban area of Nagaon district. The rally was also participated by Piyush Hazarika, MLA , Raha, and Manjyoti Bora, Chairman, Raha Town Committee where over 500 people joined the rally against the shifting of College of Fisheries from Raha to Kachamari.


The rally started at Raha PWD Inspection Bunglaw ground at 10.40 a.m. and went through Raha bazar road,and reassembled in front of College of Fisheries, Raha. after passing 2 km distance. The students and general participants in the rally shouted slogans against Dr. Kamaleswar Kalita , Associate Dean, College of Fisheries , Raha, who, as alleged by the students' organizations, submitted some false documents and papers before the Assam Agricultural University authority, Jorhat and the Indian Agriculture Research Council ( IARC ) urging them to shift the college to Kachamari , citing Raha as a flood prone area.


Later, the residents and the members of the students' organizations staged a two -hour long dharna in front of the college demanding the concerned authority and the State Government to change their decision of shifting the college from Raha and to take strong action against the Associate Dean of the College for misleading the AAU and IARC authorities.
