The North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Ministry of Culture, Government of India is organizing Shilp Mela coinciding with Discover North East - a festival of the North East at Shilpgram, Panjabari, Guwahati starting from October 29 to November 2, 2014.
One of the highlights being the national crafts & cuisine Mela will be launched on the 29th morning while the evening show will feature the renowned mime artiste Moinul Haque and Jadu Samrat Vikram Talukdar respectively.
On the 30th, our very own Zubeen Garg is all geared up to light up the festival with his ever intriguing showmanship.
Darpan Dance Akademi will be presenting an eye catching Theatre Dance Drama on October 31.
The main attraction of the festival will be the choreographed Folk Dance & Music on Nov 1 & 2, featuring more than 130 performing artists in the same stage from the entire North East Region who will be joined by artistes from other parts of the country, tactfully choreographed by noted artiste Dr Prashanna Gogoi.
Discover North East has been conceptualized keeping in view the enchanting and colourful culture of the North East Region that deserves higher appreciation and respect. NEZCC is of the opinion that the atrocities faced by North East communities in other parts of the country is primarily out of ignorance about the region; and therefore a concerted effort is deemed appropriate and need of the hour to showcase the best of the North East way of life, which needs to be realized first within the region, and the same needs to be taken forward to the rest of the country to garner respect and appreciation.
A team of cultural groups will also visit Jagiroad area to take part in a cultural exchange programme with the local people. Accordingly, artistes from Tiwa community will be performing with various artistes of the northeast on the occasion.
The event has already been organized in Nagaland and Sikkim while NEZCC will conduct the festival in the remaining states within the March next year.
“Before we can stand united outside, we the diversified people of the northeast must understand each other in better way and strengthen the bond amongst us. We also want to make it an annual affair,” said NEZCC director Lipokmar Tzudir.
