Former UPDS leader shot dead

Unidentified gunmen shot deada former insurgent leader in Karbi Anglong district on Thursday forcing security forces to intensify operation to nab the miscreants.

The incident took place on Thursday night at Boithalangsu in the hills district.

Accordng to an eyewitness, the motorcycle born gunmen halted near a shop where UPDS deputy C-In-C Rupsingh Teron who was sitting.

Then they started firing at Teron from a point bank range and left the spot. Teron was killed on the spot.

Later policeman came and sent Teron’s body to his residence which is situated at a stone’s throw distance from the spot. Investigation is going on. KPLT and UPLA militants have been unleashing terror in the area for the last couple of months.

Teron, the former UPDS deputy chief surrendered before the authority a few years ago. Since then there is no allegation of his invlvement in any attack of act of violence.

A pall of gloom is descending in the entire Boithalangsu area following the shoot out where the former insurgent leaders was killed.

Local residents demands immediate measures to nab the culprits.

New Delhi: The Centre has withdrawn AFSPA  1958 from 24 districts in view of an improved law and order situation. According to the notification, it would come into force from April 1,2022. Apart from the hills districts, AFSPA will be in force in Sivasagar, Jorhat,  Tinsukia.  Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked the Centre for the decision and hoped that the Act would be a thing of the past for the entire state in the near future. 
New Delhi: Assam and Meghalaya claimed to have settled an interstate border dispute in 6 places at a meeting of Chief Ministers with the Union's home minister in New Delhi on Tuesday. The agreement was formally signed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta  Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma after a meeting that evening. Guwahati: Independent MLA from Sivasagar has strongly objected to the state assembly Speaker’s ruling on cross voting in the Rajya Sabha polls. Gogoi said that it was not proper for the Speaker to say that nobody could be disqualified for cross voting in the Rajya Sabha polls. The Assam contractual teachers' association on Thursday staged a massive protest in support of various demands, including the regularization of jobs.
