Raijor Dal on the doorstep

Guwahati: Altogether 70 local organizations who have been dead opposed to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act,  2019 floated a new regional political party with a vow to whitewash BJP and it's allies in the 2021 assembly polls. 

Named as Raijor Dal( Peoples'Party), it was announced at a largely attended ceremony presided over by award winning film maker Jahnu Barua,  who also is one of the leaders of Sangyukta Anchalik Dallas. 

In his opening speech, Barua said that the various regional parties should remain united to save the state and it's people from the edge.  

"We have seen the unity of these organization which needs to be galvanized into a force that can protect Assam-its identity and culture," said Baruah. 

The new party is preparing pitch in the prepoll political landscape by intensifying anti CAA, and anti-EIA protest apart from mounting pressure on the government to ensure release   of Akhil Gogoi.

Notably,  despite repeated appeal All Assam Students Union and AJYCP did not join the venture and launched AJP. Then the peasant body cobbled support from as many as 70 small organizations to float a new party which was born on Friday.

Guwahati: Four more people have tested COVID 19 positive at Guwahati Medical College Hospital on Wednesday taking figure of positive cases to 5. According to state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, GMCH laboratory has confirmed COVID19 positive in Jamaluddin Arshad Ali, Hazarat Ali, Nuruddin and Jonab Ali, who attended the religious function held at Nizamuddin in Delhi in mid March. Guwahati: The participating people in the religious function at the Nizamuddin shrine have been figured after the state confirmed the first one COVID19 patient undergoing treatment at the Silchar Medical College Hospital in Delhi. According to information, altogether 299 people attended the function along with 3000 others from the country and abroad on March 13 and 14. Guwahati: In a bid to give some sort of respite in the time of nationwide lock down, the Assam government is launching a slew of schemes targeting 72 lakh families in the state. Presided over by CM Sarbananda Sonowal, the meeting resolved provide free rice for 58 lakh families under the National Food Security (NFS) Scheme  from Wednesday. Guwahati: Even as COVID19 has not reached the state,  Assam is remaining on maximum alert to keep the killer virus at bay.  Roads,  mostly in the rural areas are lying deserted since the people are confined to their homes.  But in many urban areas, including the city of Guwahati some people are still found on the road bereft of any reason forcing the police to read the riot act.
