Residents of Southwest Guwahati will get 24x7 clean and treated drinking water with adequate pressure by the end of next year. Because, the gigantic water supply project in the city, implemented by Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is to be commissioned first in Southwest Guwahati area. Work in this area is being carried out by the financial assistance of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM). For creating awareness and to consult with local residents of Azara area, an awareness meeting was held at Chandra Prabha Borah Girls High School in Azara on Tuesday afternoon.
At the beginning of the meeting a documentary film; based on the project was screened. Then a multimedia presentation about the project was given. The project team informed the public that this project is totally owned by the State Government. The “JAL BOARD” will be the sole authority and it will function with aid and advice of the State Government only. The project team informed the public thatas a part of responsibility towards public awareness and their grievance redressal the project has established a toll-free Customer Care Center - 1800-345-3615.
