Counting in Tirap peaceful

The counting of votes for the panchayat elections in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh concluded peacefully at Khonsa, the district headquarters town, at well past mid-night. Out of 7 Zila Parishad Member (ZPM) seats Indian National Congress won 4 seats while Independent candidates bagged 3. The Anchal Block for Lazu and Khela-Lamsa were reserved for women candidates. In the Anchal Samity Member (ASM) election also the Independent candidates gave the ruling Congress candidates a run for their money. However, in most ASM segments, INC candidates were triumphant. Most of the Gaon Panchayat Members (GPM) were nominated on INC ticket in most of the Anchal Blocks. The counting was peaceful and there was no report of any untoward incident from any pockets. Elaborate security arrangement was made outside the counting hall. Tirap Deputy Commissioner and DEO Dr Sachin Shinde personally supervised the counting proceedings.
