Assam police to quiz Sudipta

An Assam police team is leaving West Bengal to seek the remand of Sudipta Sen a day after the Saradha Group chief was brought to Kolkata.
According to sources, the team would interrogate Sen in connection with the chit-fund scam. He said three staff-members of Saradha Group were arrested in 2012 in connection with a cheating case in Jorhat.
So far, 222 cases have been registered against 128 chit fund companies in the State. A Special Investigation Team probing the cases has so far filed charge sheets against 42 persons and 15 companies in 17 cases. So far, 303 persons have been arrested. Nearly Rs. 94 lakh in cash has been seized and amount of Rs. 24 crore frozen. Police have seized 106 bank accounts have been frozen while steps are being taken for the attachment of a number of landed properties including 99 bighas of land and buildings which have been identified.

The companies now under scanner are Saradha Group, Rose Valley, Unipay 2U, Jeevan Suraksha, Prayag, Abyss Assam Group Co, Basil International Ltd., Alliance Vision Marketing Pvt. Ltd and Daffodils Group of Companies.

Jintul Talukdar, BhawanipurIn a bizarre incident that sends shockwaves across the state, a woman committed suicide after killing her minor daughter on Sunday.The incident took place at Bhawanipur in Bajali Mridula Patgiri strangulated her 16 month old daughter Sagorika and then committed suicide by hanging at a fan inside her room in the absence of her husband in the morning.Local residents suspect it a fall out of domestic quarrel. But only police investigation would unearth the truth.
Security forces claimed to have killed a hardcore NDFB(S) militant at an encounter in Sonitpur district on Sunday.The encounter took place in Moinajuli area at 7 in the afternoon where the militant died on the spot. Police further claimed to have recovered weapons from his possession.    
Poachers are suspected to have killed one more rhino before facing an encounter with forest guards in Kaziranga on Sunday.On hearing sounds of gunfiring at Burhapahar range of the world heritage site, forest guards rushed to the spot and locked in a grim gun battle with the poachers at Saralibeel area in the evening. Poachers managed to flee from the spot. Details are awaited.  
A businessman anaged to foil the kidnap attempt in Sonitpur district on Sunday evening.The incident took place at Alichinga in Dhekiajuli where three armed youths tried to lift businessman Basu Dey at around 8 in the evening.As the trio tried to dreg him into a bike, Dey cried for help where the local villagers in large number came out forcing the suspected NDFB-S militants to leave the spot.Police came to the spot and investigation is going on.     
Tension seems to have been escalating further in Sonitpur on Sunday a day after 4 more bodies of missing villagers were found.Apprehending breakdown in law and order situation, the district administration has clamped curfew in Borgang and Bedeti areas after protesters clashed with police in the afternoon.The clash broke out when police tried to disperse thousands of people who blocked the roads leading to Arunachal Pradesh in protest against the failure to arrest the Chaudhuwa massacre.The protesters set on fire Arunachal Pradesh bound vehicles of security forces. KMSS is all set to go for a massive agitation on Monday across the state demanding land pattas.The peasant body leaders told Assam Times that thousands of people will throng Guwahati from early in the morning to intensify the stir.They said,”we will not care even an iota to police firing and lathi-charge during our massive agitation for the landless lot.”This has forced the Kamrup(metro) district administration to make an elaborate security arrangement in the city to deal with any eventualities.Bamboo barricades are being brought to the city in many public places to prevent the protestors. The government has already shifted the land patta distribution venue from Ravindra Bhawan to Sankardev...
Sigh of relief for Guwahatians. The hawkers have temporarily called off non cooperation. From Monday morning they would resume distribution of news papers. Addressing a press conference at Guwahati Press Club on Sunday, they said that they agreed to resume their duties at the initiative of KMSS.But they made it simple that they won’t withdraw their demands before the agents who have been refusing 35 per cent commission.       
Despite massive protest and preventive measures, racial attacks on the north east people refuse to die down in New Delhi.Yet another north east student was injured in a case of racial attack in the capital. The incident took place in Basant Bihar area where goons assaulted a Manipur student on Saturday night on his way back from duty.According to allegations, four goons assaulted the student with rods and snatched away his ATM card and money in cash and then fled from the spot.The student has already lodged a complaint with the Basanta Bihar police. Investigation is going on.
