Anti-tobacco bill soon

Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.

the govt should inform all the trade bodies what products are banned or what not banned to save the petty traders from the meaningless harassment from the govt officers and so called many organisations. the sale of smoking items should also be banned in the state.

Normal rail traffic remains disrupted after six oil tanker bogies of a goods train derailed in Dima Hasao district on Tuesday.The accident took place in between Harengajao and Migrandisa in the district.According to the Northeast Frontier Railway, the tankers carrying petroleum products jumped the tracks in the morning on the Lumding-Badarpur section. The engine of the train was not damaged as the tankers were six bogies behind it. However, none was injured.It has disrupted movement of trains, including Agartala-Lumding Express, Barak Valley Express and other local trains at different places.

Violence refuses to recede in Goalpara district in the name of protest against Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council polls. Protesters on Monday set on fire a lower primary school at Puthimari during the bandh called by the Garo National Council and 10 non-Rabha organisations.Two mini buses and a car were also set ablaze in Kasomari and Torangthap area. Top regional parties of the north eastern region are holding a two days' convention  in Guwahati on Saturday to revive regionalism just six months before the Lok Sabha polls.     Convened by AGP, the conference began at the Hotel Brahmaputra Ashoka in the morning. A huge storm left the entire west Jorhat completely ravaged  uprooting many trees and disrupting surface communicationonSaturday midnight.
