Protest over hoardings

Photo: UB Photos

The Asom Sahitya Sabha officials came out to the streets on Sunday in protest against the non implementation of the Assam Language Act----making it mandatory for the government to use Assamese language in the official functionings.

The protesters removed some English and Hindi hoardings and banners on the streets. A section of Sahitya Sabha officials blackened the hoardings and banners.

A section of the Sabha officials told assamtimes that they would intensify the agitation in the run up to the special session in the city. The protest in this form assumes significance a few days after a cement factory instructed its workers and employees to avoid Assamese language inside the factory campus.
