Kampur ready to host Dimasa conference
Preparations are in full swing to hold the two day Dimasa conference under the auspices of Kampur Kacharipar Dimasa Sangathanik Samiti starting from January 17 with a number of programmes.
The conference will be attended by Dimasa Kacharis living in the hills and plains of Assam, including the Dimasas of North Cachar Hills,supposed to be the hub of Dimasa Kacharis.
It is worth mentioning that the conference bears special significance in the wake of the Koch Rajbongshis demanding for schedule tribe status in as much as the Koch Rajbongshis living in the plains of Assam claim themselves to be the direct descendants of the Dimasas living in the North Cachar Hills of Assam. The venue of the conference is named after Tula Ram Senapati , supposed to be the last of the Kachari rulers.
It is learned that a number of prominent personalities and political stalwarts are going to attend the conference.

The delay in the construction of two bridges at Raha under four-lane express highway project remains a cause for serious concern. The construction of the bridges is, being done by Madhucon, moving at a snail’s pace, putting a large number of vehicle users to hardship. A major part of the highway is also kept blocked with gravel, sand,chips and soil resulting in fatal accidents becoming commonplace on the stretch and traffic snarls becoming routine. Over a dozen two-wheeler riders and pedestrians have been killed in accidents on the badly-maintained roads and bridges on the stretch during the past one year.

A three year old baby elephant was brutally killed by a group of senseless mob near Jagiroad in Morigaon district on October 26 . According to the eyewitness,the calf with severe injury missed the herd and was loitering alone with a painful body in the swampy area of a village. Traffic movement in the Raha town bazzar area has become extremely difficult due to deplorable road condition for the last 2 years. About 500 dwellers of Raha bazzar area are suffering badly as the Public Works Department (PWD) is not taking any measure to repair the damaged road.
