Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Gogoi sure of poll victory

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is confident that Congress will be able to retain Dispur. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Tuesday, Gogoi said that his party still has good base in the rural Assam. Gogoi said BPF still is an ally of Congress. CEC, ECs review Assam poll preparations

Moreover, they discussed poll praparations with returning officers and Superintendents of Police. AGP and BJP leaders formally alleged model code violation by the ruling Congress as they met the poll panel. Notably, Assam is set to go to the polls on April 4 and 11 in two phases. The first phase will involve 62 constituencies while the the remaining 64 constituencies will go to the polls on April 11. The number of polling booths is 23,813.

BJP announces second list of 54 candidates

The BJP has announced the second list of of candidates for Assam Assembly polls. The list has 54 names a day after it was finalized at a meeting chaired by party president Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Friday. The party had earlier announced the names of six candidates. The third and final list of the contesting candidates for the State polls will be announced on March 9. The notification for the first phase of polls in the State will be issued on March 10. On the other hand, the Trinamool Congress will expand its base in northeast. Party chief Mamata Banerjee has decided to contest all the seats in Assam that goes to the polls on April 4.

CPM announces list of poll candidates

With the Assembly polls nearing, CPM steps up its efforts to steal the show. Apart from informal confabulations with other like minded parties. CPI-M has announced a list of 17 candidates for the ensuring polls. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Friday, senior leader Uddhav Barman announced that he would not seek re election this time due to superannuation. Assam gears up for Assembly polls

Only a month remains for the Assemby polls.AGP is ready to announce its second list of the candidates for the upcoming polls slated for April 4 and 11. Party president Chandra Mohan Patowary is expected to announce nits second list on Friday. BJP is also all out to put up a good show. The party's poll committee held a crcial round of meeting in Delhi on Thursday evening to discuss Assam's poll prospect. Ashok Saikia dies after surgery

Ashok Saikia, one of the top bureaucrats during the Atal Behari Vajpayee government serving then as a Joint Secretary in the PMO and later executive director of the Asian Development Bank in Manila in July 2004, died in New Delhi this morning after a heart surgery. Guwahati Bandh Hits Normal Life

A 24-hour Kamrup Bandh was called by the co-ordination committee of different trade bodies and chambers of commerce protesting the recent bomb blast at Athgaon. The bandh has evoked good response within Guwahati as well as the suburbs.
