Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

ULFA's anti-talk faction calls a 24 hour statewide Assam bandh in protest against Prime Minister DR Monmohan Singh's visit to campaign in Assam for the Assembly polls. Mridul Dutta files nomination for Khumtai LAC

The Bharataya Janata Party candidate Mridul Dutta filed his nomination today before the returning officer at golaghat for 97 no. Dergoan LAC. Dutta was accompanied by a large number of his well-wishers, supporter & party workers. Blast beside Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati

Two Congress workers have been injured at a powerful grenade blast in front of the Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati. The blast took place at around 6-50 in the evening. Party spokesmen Mehdi Alom Bora and Ranjon Bora have been injured in the blast. The duo have been rushed to the hospital.

Gogoi sure of poll victory

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is confident that Congress will be able to retain Dispur. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Tuesday, Gogoi said that his party still has good base in the rural Assam. Gogoi said BPF still is an ally of Congress. He said BPF will stay with them even if Congress gets absolute majority.

CEC, ECs review Assam poll preparations

A full bench if the Election Commission is in Guwahati on a 2 day visit to Assam. led by Chief Election Commissioner, S.Y. Quraishi, the delegation met the political leaders and poll officialos to review the poll preparations. Moreover, they discussed poll praparations with returning officers and Superintendents of Police. AGP and BJP leaders formally alleged model code violation by the ruling Congress as they met the poll panel. Notably, Assam is set to go to the polls on April 4 and 11 in two phases.
